Bloggers Jeff Ooi and Ahirudin bin Attan have been sued for defamation by the New Straits Times, an English language daily, and several individuals who worked or are currently working there.
Several newswire agencies have reported that this is the first instance of bloggers being sued for libel in Malaysia.
While this is true, if indeed the lawsuits are about libel, the real issue is whether libel has been committed. It doesn't matter whether it's a blog or printed media involved. Libel is the same online or offline.
Since details about the lawsuit are still unknown, we'll all have to wait for the court cases to happen to know exactly what they are about. This will happen by the end of the month.
