The missing blogs--A retrospection, Part 1: Software Freedom Day

Dear Open Source blog readers,

you have probably noticed that I haven't been writing for quite a while. I apologize for the absence.

I will now resume my writing by looking back at what I left out since last September. I am planning to write eight small articles in the next couple of weeks. Of course, I will try to do my best to add comments on new things about FOSS in China.

I would like to start this with some words about Software Freedom Day in Beijing on Sep. 15, 2007. We saw a great event here. Over 700 people participated--most of them students, and the event was hosted at the campus of Tsinghua University.

There were quite a number of exhibitors and 10 speakers, among them was Colin Charles who was the international guest. Colin is working for MySQL and is also the the lead of the Malaysian Language Project at OpenOffice.org. The speakers did in fact drag a lot of intention. It was sometimes hard to enter the lecture hall. If you want to get a feel about the Beijing SFD, watch the video on this link.

The event was organized by the Beijing Linux User Group and later awarded as one of the three best SFDs worldwide in the SFD Competition 2007.
