I am glad to tell you that the Beijing OpenOffice.org community will be looking to bring the 2008 International OpenOffice.org Conference (OOoCon 2008) to the Chinese city.
This is really a logical step because in 2007, REDFLAG 2000 and IBM announced that its OOo engineering teams will be re-contributing their technologies to OpenOffice.org.
Besides these key drivers, the Beijing open source community has also gathered to support this great campaign, including:
Beijing representatives of
Sun Microsystems,
Red Hat and
Ubuntu recently also pledged their commitment and support, in the event that Beijing is successful in winning the bid to host OOoCon 2008.
Last but not least, I'd like to ask the Asian OOo and open source community to support this great effort and vote for Beijing when polls start, probably at the beginning of February.
I have compiled some information at
this page at the Beijing LUG wiki. However, the URL for casting votes isn't available yet. I will provide this information as soon as the procedure has started.
