Sync mobile e-mail, calendar and contacts with Nokia's Mail For Exchange

Posted in Mister Tech by Lee Lup Yuen on Tuesday, March 31 2009 09:24 PM

Nokia's Mail For Exchange lets you sync your e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks between your Nokia phone and your company's Microsoft Exchange server over the mobile Internet. This is a free application from Nokia that works on many Nokia N-series phones. Click here to see the list of supported phones.

To download and install Nokia's Mail For Exchange, press the Menu button then select Download. Wait for the phone to download the applications catalog, then select Applications and choose "Mail for Exchange" (it may take a few seconds to appear).

You can edit your sync profile to change your Exchange sync settings; I suggest changing the "Initial Sync" setting for calendar, contacts and tasks from the default "Delete items on phone" to "Keep items on phone" or you may lose the appointments, contacts and tasks you have previously keyed into the phone.

Nokia's Mail For Exchange is seamlessly integrated with the phone's messaging functions. To check your Exchange e-mail, just select Messaging followed by "Mail For Exchange". There is a handy feature for finding your co-worker's phone number--press the Menu button, select MfE, select "Comp Dir" and enter your co-worker's name. It searches the Exchange address book and shows you the phone number.

And by the way, The M-Files blog has been expanded to become Mister Tech. In the coming weeks I promise to share with you plenty of tips for enterprise applications, including open source software, plus enterprise gadgets that can make our work so much easier. Feel free to drop a note in "Talkback" below and tell me what you would like to see.
