Mobile music is slow in coming but it will finally arrive on Malaysian shores in June in the form of MyMix Sdn Bhd, which will offer full track downloads via the Internet and through mobile kiosks.
Apparently, the first package will cost up to RM20 for 20 songs. The second package enables the user to download as many songs as his phone can hold.
The catch is that these songs are for rent only. Once your subscription expires, so do the songs (this is achieved through some digital rights management scheme).
This is a bold effort at making mobile music work but it'll be a hard sell. People, especially Malaysians, are not use to the concept of renting music. If they are paying for the songs, they want to own them.
Celcom just launched its Channel X website, www.channelx.com.my. Downloading songs, ringtones is easy and affordable with the launching of this site.
