Malaysian Web site owners can now choose to end their URL addresses with ".my" only, instead of ".com.my".
It actually costs more to register for the shorter domain name--120 ringgit (US$36.8) per registration, compared to just 80 ringgit (US$24.5) for the .com.my address.
The rationale for the higher charges is that there's a premium to having a shorter domain name. It makes sense. A ".my" is a lot catchier than the clumsy ".com.my", although if I could get a domain name that I like with a simple ".com" only, I would prefer that over a ".my". And it'd be cheaper to register too!
