Shopping locales designated as cyber centers

Posted in Malaysia Explorer by Oon Yeoh on Monday, September 29 2008 03:47 PM

When you think of cyber centers, where Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)-status companies can set up offices, you wouldn't normally think of shopping centers--but two such locations have been given this status.

The two shopping destinations--Mid Valley City and Bandar Utama--have been elevated to cyber centers by the Multimedia Development Corporation, the government agency tasked with developing the MSC.

The two famous malls in this location are Mid Valley Megamall and 1Utama Shopping Centre.

Mid Valley city has reserved about 300,000 square feet of office space for MSC-status companies in the 35-storey North and South Garden Towers. It is equipped with a fiber-optic network that covers the whole development.

Bandar Utama Cybercentre consists of the Bandar Utama City Centre, which is near the 1Utama shopping complex, and the Bandar Utama Technology Park, a 130,000sq ft building. The Bandar Utama cybercentre will also be equipped with fibre-optic network.

Shopping locales designated as cyber centers
Does anyone think that this step taken by MDeC is healthy to the development of MSC Malaysia as an overall? Or do you think that it'll be another property play by the developer?
