Taobao initiates Chinese open source revolution

In my previous post where I talked about "Linux and FOSS no longer being the underdog", changes continued to take place in a way that we, promoters of free and open source software, have been waiting for, and for years.

Three years ago I remember discussing with a great ally, COPU, about launching a Chinese marketing campaign,.....

Open source blog reloaded!

This is with great pleasure that this "little corner of the Web" is resuming activities through another member of the (now famous ;-)) Beijing Linux User Group (BLUG) doing the reporting.

I was reading my predecessors first posts to get a feel of what a first post should be, as well as Jonathan Schwartz.....

Right time for China to use open source as alternative

Sun Microsystems' chairman and co-founder Scott McNealy, told the BBC he had been asked by the new U.S. administration to prepare a paper on how the use of open source software within government, can improve both security and the cost-effective use of technology. A look at the open source OW2 Consortium

During the OSCAMP event in Beijing, I had a chance to talk to Cedric Thomas, the CEO of OW2 open source organization. Here's an extract of our conversation:

In 2002, a joint open source community.....

Time right for young open source companies: Proactum

During the recent Beijing Open Source Camp, I met with senior executives of Proactum, an open source software company from Finland.

While, generally, everybody knows Finland for Nokia, every one from the open source world knows Finland for Linux.

The executives--Proactum chairman Anneli Koivunen, senior partner Jouko Hyppönen and senior advisor Mikko Puhakka--shared their ideas on open source......

Guangzhou event shows keen interest in open source

After my long trip to Guangzhou, I am now back in Beijing for China's National Day holiday. It is a sunny day today and I have had some free time to look back and write something about my stay down south.

It was Guangzhou's hottest day when we got there. If you stood by the road, sweat would drip down from.....
