Guangzhou event shows keen interest in open source

Posted in Open Source by Peter Cheng on Friday, October 03 2008 01:40 PM

After my long trip to Guangzhou, I am now back in Beijing for China's National Day holiday. It is a sunny day today and I have had some free time to look back and write something about my stay down south.

It was Guangzhou's hottest day when we got there. If you stood by the road, sweat would drip down from your head, just like it is in a sauna.

Around 100 people were in Guangzhou to join the OpenSource Camp. Some of them came from Zhuhai, others from Hong Kong and there were locals, too. I really didn't think there would be so many people interested in open source.

Let me give you a brief timetable of our meeting:
13:00 Registration begins
14:00 OSCamp introduction
14:30 Post topics and Topic introduction
15:00 Find topics and discuss these in different rooms

During the meeting, everyone had a chance to talk to others at the camp, share ideas and give personal opinions. One of the attendees told me that he never participated in such an event before, one that allowed him the freedom to meet so many people.
