Chinese electronics company Proview has indicated it is willing to discuss a settlement with Apple, as its legal battle with Cupertino over the iPad trademark continues.

According to an AFP report Tuesday, Proview's lawyer, Xie Xianghui, was quoted to say: "We are now preparing for negotiations." However, he added that the court cases would continue until an agreement was reached.

He also revealed that Apple had told Proview it had "peaceful intentions".

Debt-ridden Proview said it was suing Apple on grounds that it owned the Chinese rights to the "iPad" trademark and had sought to block sales of the tablet in China, as well as imports and experts of the device.

Apple countered by saying it bought Proview's worldwide rights to the iPad trademark in 10 different countries several years ago. "Proview refuses to honor their agreement with Apple in China, and a Hong Kong court has sided with Apple in this matter," an Apple spokesperson told ZDNet Asia sister site, CNET News, last week.

The trademark dispute has already led to iPads being taken off retail shelves in China.

According to Xie, a Shanghai court is scheduled Wednesday to hear Proview's argument against Apple, AFP reported.

Talkback

Of course they are 'open', that was the game plan from the start! What a weasel!
