roundup The future is increasingly about convergence, and it may be here sooner than you think.

Consultancy agency PricewaterhouseCoopers noted earlier this month that consumer demands are driving businesses in the computing, telecommunications and broadcast industries to form more strategic partnerships. More mergers and acquisitions are also to be expected, according to PwC.

Another area growing in importance is IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a type of next-generation architecture touted to allow telcos to provide fixed and mobile offerings over one network.

A study from Informa Telecoms and Media indicated that 188 million users will be taking advantage of IMS-enabled services by 2011. The IMS market, predicted the analyst, will peak at the end of the decade to reach US$4.5 billion.

Read on to find out more about these and other recent developments in digital convergence.
