Her husband, Clifford, is left a paraplegic by the war, and Constance sees the countryside around theChatterley estate, Wragby, being crippled by the industrialrevolution. Only on the grounds of the estate and in the arms of the gamekeeperdoes she feel safe. And there his hand softly, softly, stroked the curve of her flank, in the blind instinctive caress.Lady Chatterley's LoverD. H. LawrenceLawrence's personal life was no less sensational than his novels. Wooing Frieda von Richthofen away from her husband Professor Ernest Weekly, she and Lawrence eloped to Europe.
