Ironically, good times can sometimes present a tough challenge.
Especially if it follows a lengthy bad patch where cost-savings and prudence had become the mantra. But with the Asian economy picking up, companies have got to, once again, think about investing in growth technologies.
What are the challenges in that?
Gartner chief of research Craig Baty pointed out two: Making the mental adjustment, and creating relevant new processes to handle new technologies.
There are more challenges, of course. And more prescriptions offered by Baty and other Gartner analysts at the CNETAsia Gartner Summit 2004, held this week in Singapore.
Headlined "Gearing Technology for Growth", the two-day conference organized by Gartner and CNETAsia included 24 analyst presentations on key technology issues. The main technology tracks are "Services and Outsourcing", "Enterprise Platforms and Storage", "Application Development and Integration", and "Mobility and Wireless Applications".
"This theme was put together encompassing a business angle while looking at the importance of IT as a building block to the companies' growth initiatives," said Ian Bertram, vice president of Gartner's software research sector in Asia-Pacific.
