Overview
The Australian Customs Service uses a range of sophisticated techniques to protect national borders. To back this up, it maintains about 5,800 computers, including 600 notebooks, at 93 locations. However, its IT department was struggling under the burden of maintaining its desktop infrastructure and was concerned about the security of data stored on notebook computers. Working with Microsoft Services, Customs has deployed Windows Vista to over 4,400 computers and upgraded its network infrastructure to Active Directory Domain Services. The mobility features of the new operating system help mobile workers to access corporate applications securely, while Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption will help secure data stored on notebook computers.
