whitepaper High-Performance Computing Power of 64-Bit Intel Itanium 2 Processors Helps Reduce Financial Trading Risks0000-00-00 Intel
Financial institutions need to accurately measure and manage financial risks in order to efficiently, and effectively trade with counterparties. However, risks modeling and calculations in the busy financial markets require high-performance computing platforms in order to deliver the accuracy and timeliness that is needed to effectively carry out profitable trading. Researchers from Australian developer, Credit Risk Systems (CRS) found that Itanium 2-based servers running the company's optimized version of BoundaryRider application could effectively deliver the results banks need to reduce financial trading risks.

whitepaper Sun's High-Performance and Reliable Web Proxy Solution2007-05-17 Sun Microsystems
As individuals and businesses depend on the Web more than ever to conduct business, rapid and reliable content retrieval is critical. Reducing wait time improves productivity and increases user satisfaction. Web proxy technology has emerged as an effective solution to improve performance, help ensure content availability and enhance network security by caching and filtering Web content. The combination of Sun SPARC Enterprise servers with CoolThreads technology and the Sun Java System Web Proxy Server software provides a compelling foundation for a robust Web proxy solution. Sun SPARC Enterprise T1000 and T2000 servers include the UltraSPARC T1 processor with CoolThreads technology, offering six or eight cores with four threads per core.

whitepaper Dataminning to Investigate the Prescribing of Medications Longitudinally2007-05-14 SAS Institute
High performance forecasting can be applied to healthcare data where the time variable is transactional. Once the trend of the medication is known, researchers can study the medication thoroughly to lower costs and improve care. Severity conditions of a patient are classified using Enterprise Miner (data mining). Probability density estimation is plotted using kernel density estimation methods to compare the total cost and private insurance payment for the severity condition of the patients and it was found that patients with Urinary tract infection have higher frequency. Proper use of the data mining and High Performance Forecasting approaches can lower costs and improve the healthcare of society.

whitepaper A Throughput-Intensive Compute and Storage Grid Using SAS Grid Manager2007-05-14 SAS Institute
The time has come when a $2,000,000 SMP UNIX server can be replaced by a $200,000 grid of even greater performance, reliability, and fault tolerance. This paper will discuss the considerations made in selecting the key grid components: grid node hardware, network infrastructure, and storage strategy. These must be optimized for the type of workload the grid will support. The paper takes a look at detailed performance metrics of the pilot grid, which executes single-threaded and massively parallel SAS workloads using SAS Grid Manager software on Linux.

whitepaper A High-Performance Interpretive Approach to Schema-Directed Parsing2007-05-12 Association for Computing Machinery
XML delivers key advantages in interoperability due to its flexibility, expressiveness, and platform-neutrality. As XML has become a performance-critical aspect of the next generation of business computing infrastructure, however, it has become increasingly clear that XML parsing often carries a heavy performance penalty, and that current, widely-used parsing technologies are unable to meet the performance demands of an XML-based computing infrastructure. Several efforts have been made to address this performance gap through the use of grammar-based parser generation. While the performance of generated parsers has been significantly improved, adoption of the technology has been hindered by the complexity of compiling and deploying the generated parsers.

whitepaper Understanding the Effects of Wrong-Path Memory References on Processor Performance0000-00-00 University of Texas
High-performance out-of-order processors spend a significant portion of their execution time on the incorrect program path even though they employ aggressive branch pre-diction algorithms. Although memory references generated on the wrong path do not change the architectural state of the processor, they can affect the arrangement of data in the memory hierarchy. This paper examines the effects of wrong-path memory references on processor performance. It is shown that these references significantly affect the IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) performance of a processor.

whitepaper Spectral Clustering and Transductive Learning With Multiple Views2007-05-10 Microsoft
This paper considers spectral clustering and transductive inference for data with multiple views. A typical example is the web, which can be described by either the hyperlinks between web pages or the words occurring in web pages. When each view is represented as a graph, one may convexly combine the weight matrices or the discrete Laplacians for each graph, and then proceed with existing clustering or classification techniques. Such a solution might sound natural, but its underlying principle is not clear. Unlike this kind of methodology, it develops multiview spectral clustering via generalizing the normalized cut from a single view to multiple views.

whitepaper Diverge-Merge Processor (DMP): Dynamic Predicated Execution of Complex Control-Flow Graphs Based on Frequently Executed Paths0000-00-00 Microsoft
This paper proposes new processor architecture for handling hard-to-predict branches, the Diverge-Merge Processor (DMP). The goal of this paradigm is to eliminate branch mispredictions due to hard-to-predict dynamic branches by dynamically predicating them without requiring ISA support for predicate registers and predicated instructions. To achieve this without incurring large hardware cost and complexity, the compiler provides control-flow information by hints and the processor dynamically predicates instructions only on frequently executed program paths. The key insight behind DMP is that most control-flow graphs look and behave like simple hammock (if-else) structures when only frequently executed paths in the graphs are considered. Therefore, DMP can dynamically predicate a much larger set of branches than simple hammock branches.

whitepaper High Performance Direct-Iterative Hybrid Linear Solution Method for Large Scale Structural Analysis2007-05-05 Seoul National University
In this paper, hybrid direct-iterative linear solution method is proposed to solve large-scale structural analysis problem. Direct solution method is common to finite element structural analysis, but it has some disadvantage compared with iterative method. Iterative method is quite good performance to solve large scale problem, so they can combine both two method to get good performance to solve the structural analysis problem. Hybrid method proposed in this paper is based on FETI-DP method which is a kind of iterative substructuring domain decomposition method. Whole problem domain is divided into some piece of subdomains and each internal domain is solved by multifrontal direct method and interface variables are treated by iterative solution method.
whitepaper Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 Server Architecture2007-05-01 Sun Microsystems
As the first of its kind, the Sun Fire X4600 server is the fastest, most scalable, and energy-efficient four-way to 16-way x64 (x86 64-bit) server. It scales quickly from four sockets to eight sockets simply by adding processor boards, all in a compact 4RU form factor. With its multiple operating system support, extensive ISV application offerings, time-saving manageability, and availability features, the Sun Fire X4600 server is the top midrange solution for server consolidation and virtualization, enterprise applications, and High Performance Computing (HPC).
