Wellcome Achieves Greater Financial Control, Cuts Reporting Time From 12 Hours to 30 Minutes | 2008-05-01 | Oracle |
| Eighty percent of Wellcome stores are open 24 hours, seven days a week. The company receives and must sift through enormous amounts of financial data, and consequently needs a powerful and reliable financial system. Its legacy system had undergone numerous expansions and upgrades and thus required a high productivity system. However, support for the hardware running the system was no longer available. As a result, the company experienced performance issues that threatened to destabilize financial operations. As part of the overhaul, Wellcome replaced its legacy financial system with Oracle Financials. By implementing Oracle Financials, Wellcome ensured easy integration with its existing Oracle Database platform.

Fujian Unicom Simplifies Database Management With Help From Neusoft Group Limited | 2008-05-01 | Oracle |
| Fujian Unicom is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Unicom, one of the four major telecommunications carriers in China. One of the biggest challenges facing Fujian Unicom was how to better organize, manage, and use its huge volumes of business data. The company's database administrators were spending large amounts of time repartitioning databases and creating tables. This was a costly exercise that also hindered staff from focusing their attention on higher value tasks. In 2003, Fujian Unicom engaged Oracle Certified Advantage Partner Neusoft Group Limited to simplify the management of its database environment based on Oracle Database and utilizing Oracle Partitioning.

Aerospace Firm Moves From Mainframe to Microsoft SQL Server, Saves Time and Money | 2008-05-01 | Microsoft |
| L-3 Vertex Aerospace has more than 11,000 staff at 300 locations around the world to service 3,500 aircraft, including 89 distinct types, primarily for the U.S. government. Bidding on new contracts requires drawing on millions of rows of accounting and inventory data, which had been stored on an IBM 3090 mainframe computer that was difficult and expensive to maintain. As L-3 Vertex's business grew, it needed a more flexible system that was easier to use. The company moved the system to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, which dramatically reduced costs, cut the turnaround time on queries from weeks to days, and allowed users to run their own analytics using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.

VicUrban Adopts Standardized IT Architecture to Create Robust, Secure Information System | 2008-05-01 | Oracle |
| Following the merger, VicUrban conducted a review of the information technology infrastructure inherited from each organization. It soon became obvious that a change was needed; one organization had based its financial system on Oracle while the other on Microsoft. Working with disparate software systems proved to be ineffective, costly, and restrictive. Following a comprehensive evaluation, VicUrban selected Oracle Database and a range of Oracle E-Business Suite applications to build its new environment. The software provided a robust and secure information system that required minimal modification. The agency also adopted Oracle CRM On Demand to make it easier for staff to access and capture customer information.

Making Database Connections: Connect to Oracle and Third-Party Databases From Oracle SQL Developer | 2008-05-01 | Oracle |
| Oracle SQL Developer enables developers and DBAs to browse, create, and update data in a database. Before one can perform those actions, however, one must create at least one database connection - an Oracle SQL Developer object containing the information needed to connect to a specific database as a specific user. This paper explains how to make connections from Oracle SQL Developer to an Oracle Database and third-party databases. It also discusses authorization options for Oracle Database connections and explains the role of JDBC drivers in the connection process.

Fujitsu Case Study: UKAEA | 2008-05-01 | Fujitsu |
| The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) uses, handles and stores a wide range of radioactive materials as part of its role in restoring the environment of nuclear sites. Users or support staff were often experts of their own systems, but couldn't understand or maintain others in the UK industry, so 'Comparing notes' was proving unnecessarily difficult. UKAEA approached Fujitsu at this time with no major plan, just a problem that needed solving. Fujitsu chose a combination of Microsoft and Oracle systems with web portal technology to make this possible, i.e. to successfully design and implement a package to process, update and report on nuclear and radioactive materials throughout the supply chain.
