whitepaper Saving Time and Labor on Oracle Patching With Enterprise Manager Provisioning Pack - A Case Study With Oracle Internal IT2008-01-01 Oracle
The purpose of this paper is to detail the process and benefits of using Enterprise Manager Provisioning pack procedure to automate application of the Critical Patch Updates (hence forth referred to as CPU) on Real Application Clusters (RAC) in Oracle Internal IT (henceforth referred to as ST-IT) environments. Oracle ST-IT environment consists of complex multi-tier systems. ST-IT maintains high secure environments adhering to the quarterly cycle of CPU. The application of these patches are mandatory to keep the environments secure, stable, and at high performance. With the rules and requirements in place, orchestration of identifying, testing and rolling out patches on to the production servers had become a time consuming, labor-intensive and error-prone process.

whitepaper Performance and Scalability Benchmark: Siebel CRM Release 8.0 Industry Applications and Oracle 10gR2 DB on Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220 Servers Running the Solaris 10 OS2008-01-01 Oracle
This paper describes the performance and scalability capabilities of Oracle's Siebel Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Applications Release 8.0. The benchmark comprised 10,000 concurrent users running Siebel CRM Release 8.0 industry applications and Oracle 10gR2 DB on Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220 Servers. All servers ran the Solaris 10 operating system. Oracle's Siebel Platform Sizing and Performance Program is a test suite certified by Siebel and executed independently by Sun Microsystems. Sun completed the benchmark on December 02, 2007; Oracle certified it on January 04, 2008. Note that this benchmark data is intended for general information purposes and not as a substitute for implementation-specific sizing or benchmarks.

whitepaper Oracle Database 10g R2 and Oracle RAC 10g R2 on IBM AIX: Tips and Considerations2008-01-01 IBM
There are many technical topics to consider when running Oracle Database 10gR2 and Oracle RAC 10gR2 on AIX such as certifications, 10gR2 patch sets, AIX code levels, tuning and related software components - just to name a few. The paper focuses on AIX 5.2, 5.3 and 6.1, since Oracle Database 10gR2 and Oracle RAC 10gR2 are certified on those versions of AIX.

whitepaper High availability for SQL Server 2005 using array-based replication and host-based mirroring technologies2008-01-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
This white paper demonstrates that, in a highly-available disaster recovery environment using either HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database mirroring, checkpoint duration is critical to managing the solution behavior and implementation of the best practices results in significant performance improvements up to 52%.

This solution provides the information needed to select the replication, mirroring, and/or high availability method(s) suitable for your environment; and the best practices for optimal configuration of the SQL database, HP ProLiant blade servers, HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA)storage, and software. Both array-based replication with HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA and host-based copying with SQL Server database mirroring are discussed, along with strategies for synchronous and asynchronous replication of SQL databases between primary and remote HP EVA disk arrays.

whitepaper BGP Routing Scalability: Reflectors Vs. Route Servers2008-01-01 University of Alberta
Autonomous systems need to be connected using BGP servers. To reduce the complexity of connecting these systems together, researchers have suggested that route servers or routing databases be used. While both route reflectors and routing databases offer significant scalability advantages over standard full mesh BGP, they also introduce problems in routing and survivability. This paper explores the relative advantages and disadvantages of full mesh BGP, route reflectors, and routing databases.

whitepaper Scalable Hybrid Search on Distributed Databases2008-01-01 Florida State University
A hybrid keyword search that combines metadata search with a traditional keyword search over unstructured context data has been previously described. This hybrid search paradigm provides the inquirer additional options to narrow the search with some semantic aspect from the XML metadata query. But in earlier work, the scalability limitations of a single-machine implementation was experienced. This paper describes a scalable hybrid search on distributed databases. This scalable hybrid search provides a total query result from the collection of individual inquiries against independent data fragments distributed in a computer cluster. The paper demonstrates the architecture extends the scalability of a native XML query limited in a single machine and improves the performance for some queries.

whitepaper COMBI-Operator - Database Support for Data Mining Applications2008-01-01 Dresden University of Technology
Database support for data mining has become an important research topic. Especially for large high-dimensional data volumes, comprehensive support from the database side is necessary. This paper identifies the data intensive subproblem of aggregating high-dimensional data in all possible low-dimensional projections (for instance estimating low-dimensional histograms), which occurs in several established data mining techniques. Second, the paper shows that existing OLAP SQL-extensions are insufficient for high-dimensional data and propose a new SQL-operator, which seamlessly fits into the set of existing OLAP Group By operators. Third, the paper proposes efficient implementations for the operator, which take the limited re-sources of main memory into account.

whitepaper Multi-Relational Data Mining2008-01-01 Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
An important aspect of data mining algorithms and systems is that they should scale well to large databases. A consequence of this is that most data mining tools are based on machine learning algorithms that work on data in attribute-value format. Experience has proven that such 'Single-table' mining algorithms indeed scale well. This paper presents a framework and an architecture that provide such a generalization. In this framework the semantic information in the database schema, e.g., foreign keys are exploited to prune the search space and, in the architecture, database primitives are defined to ensure efficiency.

whitepaper Biological Applications of Multi-Relational Data Mining2008-01-01 University of Wisconsin
Biological databases contain a wide variety of data types, often with rich relational structure. Consequently multi-relational data mining techniques frequently are applied to biological data. This white paper presents several applications of multi-relational data mining to biological data, taking care to cover a broad range of multi-relational data mining techniques.
