CartaSi Uses SAS 9 to Forecast and Contain Financial Charges | 2006-07-06 03:01:16 |
SAS Institute |
| |
CartaSí is the most commonly used credit card in Italy, with 7.5 million cardholders. CartaSí works by paying "In cash" retailers who sell using this credit card and at the same time financing the credit cardholder until the charge is debited. Therefore the company must bear financial charges for up to 45 days for each credit card transaction, and a great deal can happen between purchases being made and the respective charge being debited to CartaSí cardholders. Hence it is strategically necessary for CartaSí to have a forecasting system specifically for calculating the company's indebtedness in the next 48 hours. SAS9 helped them reduce costs while allowing faster strategic decision making.

As part of their MSc (Master of Science) thesis, three students from the Aarhus School of Business have built an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) model for the plastics manufacturer SP Moulding, which will provide company managers with a better basis for determining prices and calculating customer profitability. In 2004, they were given access to the core engine room of the plastics manufacturer. SP Moulding chose to collaborate with the three students in order to gain access to the latest and best theoretical and practical experience within activity-based costing. The core of the thesis - and the solution - is a ready-for-use ABC model, customized for the plastics manufacturer and based on SAS Activity-Based Management.

ABB Controls Billions in Procurement Spend With SAS Supplier Relationship Management | 2006-07-06 02:13:59 |
SAS Institute |

ABB, which supplies utilities and other industries with power and automation technologies, is a truly global corporation, with business units in some 100 countries and annual revenues close to US$15 billion. As a rule of thumb, such companies spend close to half of their revenues on subcontractors, creating very large procurement expenditures that must be handled effectively and efficiently. During the last couple of years, ABB has enhanced its procurement processes considerably, due in part to spend-analysis capabilities from SAS Supplier Relationship Management software. The spend-analysis capabilities in the SAS Supplier Relationship Management system give ABB a clear and detailed picture of the current procurement activity across ABB's international units.

As one of the largest providers of healthcare, dental, pharmacy, group life, disability and long-term care insurance benefits in the United States, Aetna Integrated Informatics (AetInfo) insures more than 14 million individuals. Like many large insurers, Aetna stores member data for dental, pharmaceutical, medical, behavioral health and disability insurance claims in separate systems throughout the company. But using SAS, AetInfo is able to bring that data back together and create predictive models that provide important information for the company's disease management and total health management programs. Using SAS for data management and data analysis, AetInfo developed the PULSE AIM application, a combination of two sophisticated predictive analysis models.
