The Impact of the newly emerging field of Financial Data Quality Management (FDQM) on Group Reporting and Performance Management Processes | 2007-06-11 12:57:24 | Hyperion |
| Data quality management could be regarded as the less glamorous end of the Reporting Supply Chain (RSC). After all, most of the attention and interest are lavished on the latest portal, reporting tool or dashboard. Yet, mismanagement or neglect of underlying balance information or interfaces can place the integrity of the whole process in jeopardy. In recent years, financial reporting processes have become intertwined with other key management processes such as budgeting, planning, forecasting, scorecarding and analytics to form a broader performance management platform sharing common data structures. | |||

E-Mail as Intellectual Property | 2007-01-12 01:00:27 | Quocirca Ltd |
| Email is now more important to companies than ever - sensitive information is committed to email both inside and outside of the organisation. However, growth in overall email volume, driven by more sophisticated spamming attacks, as well the need to filter out malware and to ensure content is suitable for purpose means that we now must re-address how we view email within the organisation. | |||

What's New: Finding Significant Differences in Network Data Streams | 2006-12-13 01:00:24 | Rutgers, State University of New Jersey |
| Monitoring and analyzing network traffic usage patterns is vital for managing IP Networks. An important problem is to provide network managers with information about changes in traffic, informing them about "What's new". Specifically, the focus of this paper is on the challenge of finding significantly large differences in traffic: over time, between interfaces and between routers. The paper introduces the idea of a deltoid: an item that has a large difference, whether the difference is absolute, relative or variational. It presents novel algorithms for finding the most significant deltoids in high speed traffic data, and proves that they use small space, very small time per update, and are guaranteed to find significant deltoids with pre-specified accuracy. | |||

End-to-End Monitoring Is Critical to Meeting End User Expectations Today and Tomorrow | 2007-01-04 01:00:22 | FireScope |
| To function as Business Partners, IT must provide more than technology. They must fuel productivity by delivering critical services at expected levels. They also must contribute to enterprise strategy, planning for the capacity and services that enable growth. To know they are meeting expectations today and to plan for tomorrow, IT needs an end-to-end infrastructure view that reveals issues as they happen and tracks trends that predict future needs. But, IT groups can't drain resources just to create a unified view of the environment. FireScope provides a cost-effective solution that collects, analyzes, and reports data from all of IT's critical systems, delivering the essential business intelligence needed to achieve the Business Partner vision. | |||

Domain of Competence of XCS Classifier System in Complexity Measurement Space | 2006-12-09 01:00:18 | Alcatel-Lucent |
| The XCS classier system has shown a high degree of competence on a variety of data mining problems. But to what kind of problems XCS is well and poorly suited is seldom understood, especially for real-world classification problems. The major inconvenience has been attributed to the difficulty of determining the intrinsic characteristics of real-world classification problems. This paper investigates the domain of competence of XCS by means of a methodology that characterizes the complexity of a classification problem by a set of geometrical descriptors. The focus is on XCS with hyperrectangle codification, which has been predominantly used for real-attributed domains. | |||
