Data Mining Approach for Analyzing Call Center Performance | 2006-07-11 01:38:47 |
Oklahoma State University |
| |
The aim of the research explain in this paper was to apply well-known data mining techniques (such as linear neural networks, probabilistic neural networks, support vector machines and finally a hybrid decision tree - neural network approach) to the problem of predicting the quality of service in call centers; based on the performance data actually collected in a call center of a large insurance company. The aim was two-fold. First, to compare the performance of models built using the abovementioned techniques and, second, to analyze the characteristics of the input sensitivity in order to better understand the relationship between the performance evaluation process and the actual performance and in this way help improve the performance of call centers.

Spam Zombies From Outer Space | 2006-06-14 01:00:26 |
University of Calgary |

How can better email worms be created? How can spyware claim more victims? How can better spam be sent? It turns out that these three questions are all related. This paper looks at the future threat posed by email worms, spyware, and spammers that use zombie machines in a new way: sophisticated data mining of their victims' saved email. The end result skirts many defenses, and could trick even experienced users. The paper presents new defenses that can be deployed now against this threat.

Embedded Predictive Modeling in a Parallel Relational Database | 2006-03-23 04:46:06 |
Association for Computing Machinery |
| |
A methodology for embedding predictive modeling algorithms in a commercial parallel database is described; specifically, the parallel editions of IBM DB2 Universal Database, although many aspects of the overall approach can be used with other commercial parallel databases. This parallelization approach was implemented in the Version 8.2 release of DB2 Intelligent Miner Modeling to support a new predictive modeling algorithm called Transform Regression. This database-embedded mining algorithm provides all the usual benefits, including easier integration into large enterprise applications, the ability to perform entire data mining workflows directly from an SQL-based programming interface, reduced data transfer costs between the database and the data mining application, and faster, parallel data access during query processing.

Enhancing Value Through Data Mining | 2006-08-10 01:00:12 |
Investcorp |
| |
In spite of centuries of sales experience, most insurers rely heavily on price for acquiring and retaining customers. The reality is that customers base insurance purchasing decisions on many factors. While this does not mean that one can ignore pricing, it does mean that alternatives exist for insurers to remain competitive. For some companies, the frustrating cycle of hard and soft markets will not exist. By relying on the power of data mining, they can maintain the consistency and accuracy of their underwriting decisions; they can significantly reduce the impact of fraudulent claims; and they can have a better understanding of their customers' wants and needs.
