Understanding the System Architecture of SAS/ETL and SAS/EBI Server for Federal Enterprise Architecture Requirements | 2006-12-22 01:00:22 |
SAS Institute |
| |
This paper describes some of the key points learned through: many conversations with SAS Institute, and persistence to understand how the SAS Enterprise Business Intelligence Server and the Extraction, Transformation, and Loading Server work. These new Enterprise offerings of SAS Institute require planning to install and knowledge of the system infrastructure to configure. Because of this, SAS Institute personnel are often utilized to facilitate this process. But following two old axioms about teaching a man to fish, and learning more from the mistakes than the successes the authors installed the Server software on their own.

A Pragmatic Programmers Introduction to Data Integration Studio | 2006-12-22 01:00:22 |
SAS Institute |
| |
ETL is the process of moving data from a source system (such as operational systems or a table in a database) into a structure that supports analytics and reporting (target). This paper will guide the reader through a structured, hands-on exercise designed to give them a broad overview of what things one can accomplish with Data Integration Studio. Here the authors swill prepare data for use by extracting data from an external file, creating transformations that enrich the data, combining it with other data for completeness and finally loading the data into tables that are part of a star schema. The goal of this paper is to get users comfortable with the tool and demonstrate its capability.

Advanced Warehousing With SAS9 | 2006-12-22 01:00:22 |
SAS Institute |
| |
The world of data warehousing, data marts, and data integration continues to progress as more complex Business Intelligence environments become more widespread. This paper discusses the new and improved capabilities of SAS Data Integration Server (formerly known as SAS ETL Server) and SAS9 in general, to meet these challenges. These capabilities are discussed in the context of meeting specific business challenges and include the areas of administration of complex systems, metadata synchronization, ways to work with parallel execution of processes, and working with parallel storage.

Stars and Models: How to Build and Maintain Star Schemas Using SAS Data Integration Server in SAS9 | 2006-12-22 01:00:22 |
SAS Institute |
| |
Star schemas are used in data warehouses as the primary storage mechanism for dimensional data that is to be queried efficiently. Star schemas are the final result of the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes that are used in building the data warehouse. Efficiently building the star schema is important, especially as the data volumes that are required to be stored in the data warehouse increase. This paper describes how to use the SAS Data Integration Server, which is the follow-on, next generation product to the SAS ETL Server, to efficiently build and maintain star schema data structures. A number of techniques in the SAS Data Integration Server are explained.

Climbing to the OLAP Summit With Oracle Warehouse Builder 10gR2 | 2006-07-04 05:06:54 |
Oracle |
| |
The aim of this whitepaper is to review how Oracle Warehouse Builder 10gR2 can help companies successfully implement new projects and extend existing projects to include OLAP (multi-dimensional) data models. With the introduction of 9i of the database Oracle provided a unified relational and multi-dimensional server. Oracle Warehouse builder supported this unified environment with its dimensional and cube based modeling features. However, with the availability of the next generation of Warehouse Builder the life cycle management of multi-dimensional models has moved to the next level. Oracle Warehouse Builder is the first ETL product to provide a single integrated and complete environment for managing enterprise data warehouse solutions that also incorporate multi-dimensional schemas.

Moving to SQL Server 2005 at Microsoft: SQL Server 2005 Deployment and Feature Implementation | 2006-11-01 01:00:29 |
Microsoft |
| |
By moving to SQL Server 2005, Microsoft IT can maximize collaborative business performance by providing real-time business insights through an integrated analysis and reporting platform that enables Microsoft business units to make better decisions and respond to new opportunities. Additionally, the integrated developer toolset in SQL Server 2005 enables Microsoft IT to automate routine tasks and work more on scalable enterprise solutions to meet strategic business needs. Moving to SQL Server 2005 can be challenging. Because a large number of applications have already been upgraded to SQL Server 2005 at Microsoft, Microsoft IT has accumulated a large repository of knowledge that may help other organizations move to SQL Server 2005.
