Cisco developers, in turn, had to write different code for every directory that their applications would need to access. Maintaining separate directories increased costs because they had to train different people to support each one and pay licensing fees. Cisco IT selected Microsoft Active Directory as both the enterprise LDAP directory and NOS directory solution. Active Directory provides all of the directory functions that Cisco needs in one product.
