whitepaper IDGraphs: Intrusion Detection and Analysis Using Histographs2008-01-01 Northwestern University
Traffic anomalies and attacks are commonplace in today's networks and identifying them rapidly and accurately is critical for large network operators. For a statistical Intrusion Detection System (IDS), it is crucial to detect at the flow-level for accurate detection and mitigation. However, existing IDS systems offer only limited support for interactively examining detected intrusions and anomalies, analyzing worm propagation patterns, and discovering correlated attacks. These problems are becoming even more acute as the traffic on today's high-speed routers continues to grow. IDGraphs is an interactive visualization system for intrusion detection that addresses these challenges.

whitepaper Robust Software for Computing Camera Motion Parameters2007-12-20 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
This paper revisits the method of Tsai, Huang, and Zhu for the computation of camera motion parameters in computer vision. It elucidates some spectral properties of the homography matrices that arise, which are rank-one perturbations of rotation matrices. The paper shows how to correct for noise by finding the rank-one perturbation of a rotation closest to a give matrix. The paper illustrates some of the inaccuracies and computational failures that can arise when using the formulas given by Tsai, and it proposes new formulas that avoid these pitfalls. A computational experiment shows that the new methods are indeed quite robust.
whitepaper Live Meeting Webcast: Key Solutions for Your Business2007-12-13 Microsoft
The attendee of this webcast will learn how to help the teams work better together with collaboration solutions like shared workspaces and unified messaging. It also explains how to empower people to work smarter with solutions that securely deliver the business intelligence the teams need to make informed decisions. The presenter helps to understand the basics of Microsoft licensing so that one can maximize the IT investment with a single license agreement that enables the organization to save money.

whitepaper Best Practices for Authenticating Mobile Workers and Securing Data Access2007-12-07 Securecomputing
In an environment where business and government databases store ever-increasing amounts of sensitive and confidential data - and where a growing number of employees need to access that data remotely - password security alone is insufficient to ensure user authentication. Many organizations are turning to two-factor authentication, which requires two measures for users to verify their identities and access data. Typically, two-factor authentication involves "something one have," such as a token, and "Something one know," such as a PIN or password. Hardware tokens provide a unique passcode each time a user logs in to the system. Tokens are portable, easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and compatible with virtually every type of computer.

whitepaper Microsoft BI Is Head of the Class at Coppin State University2007-12-04 Microsoft Tips
Faced with a small IT staff, a limited budget and a need to optimize its existing PeopleSoft ERP application and HEAT helpdesk platform, solving their data access problems could have been a daunting task for Coppin State University (CSU). Adding complexity, it needed a BI solution that would not take two or three years to implement. Finally it had to be easy-to-use with minimal training since it would be deployed to 200 users across the organization. CSU selected SQL Server and Windows Server 2000 as the best choice for moving forward. They also implemented Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 for in-depth data analysis, an integrated performance management application designed to help improve operational and financial performance across the organization.

whitepaper Automatically Save and Recover Office Files2007-12-01 Microsoft
Sometimes a Microsoft Office program closes before the saving changes to a working file. Some possible causes include: A power outage occurs. System is made unstable by another program. Something goes wrong with the Microsoft Office program itself. Although the user can't always prevent problems such as these from happening, the user can take steps to protect their work when an Office program closes abnormally. The AutoRecover option (in these Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Visio) and AutoSave option (in Microsoft Office Outlook) can help the user avoid losing work in two ways: One's data is automatically saved and the program state is automatically saved.

whitepaper Optimizing Branch Office Security and Productivity in the Financial Services Sector2007-12-01 Microsoft
This white paper examines the problems that financial services sector companies face when attempting to provide secure and efficient data access to branch offices. It also provides solutions based on the features and capabilities included with ISA Server 2006, Whale IAG 2007 and Windows Server 2003 R2. This paper specifically examines how to prevent security issues at branch offices from impacting main-office security, and how to reduce cost and operational inefficiencies inherent in distributed computing environments.
