Microsoft Drives Corporate Performance With Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 | 2007-10-08 | Microsoft Tips |
| With hundreds of internal organizations and business groups, Microsoft Corporation found it challenging to ensure that everyone through every level of the enterprise was aligned with its business goals. Microsoft's business process relied largely on the various groups sharing targets and results by emailing standalone Excel files. This created concerns around data inaccuracies, inconsistencies and security. The perfect solution presented itself in Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, an integrated performance management application with comprehensive capabilities that include budget and forecasting, which are essential for establishing the targets to support the company's strategies and objectives. Based on Microsoft Office and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 also offers scalability, data management and security, and a familiar, easy-to use-interface for data entry using Microsoft Excel.

Working With Connectors | 2007-10-05 | Microsoft |
| Imagine a person spending hours working on a flowchart for new authors detailing the process a manuscript goes through from submission to publication at the company. The next day, he or she finds out that the process has been changed: roles have been added and certain steps have been combined or switched. The person is going to need to update the chart to reflect these changes. In the past, this would have required painstakingly moving the shapes and the lines connecting them separately. By using connectors in Visio 2003 - special lines that stay "Glued" to shapes - one can move the shapes and the lines at once, quickly and easily updating the flowchart.

Eurocopter Improves Product Development Operations With Web-Based Visualization Solution | 2007-10-01 | Oracle |
| Global distribution of development and production, and the growing trend toward outsourcing development tasks to international system suppliers represented a major challenge for the company. At the same time, the company faced growing pressure to reduce development cycle times and costs. Eurocopter needed to improve the efficiency of its product development operations and other business processes. One possible starting point for improvement was the way in which Eurocopter communicated Computer-Aided Design (CAD) data across the company. Digital product development enables Eurocopter to shorten development cycles for its helicopters, but it requires powerful tools to make the digital data accessible to non-CAD departments.

Electricity Distributor ETSA Utilities, Simplifies Connections With SAP NetWeaver | 2007-10-01 | SAP |
| There was a need to improve engagement with key stakeholders, such as Energy Retailers and Electricians and a need to consolidate IT skills around a specific technology. There was a desire to reuse technology to expand the project to enhance relationships with customers and suppliers. ETSA Utilities wanted to simplify the request process for new connections, metering changes, service alterations, system augmentation or permanent removal of electricity supply and reduce turn around time and handling time on such requests. The challenge was to provide greater flexibility through web-based 24/7 self-service facility. As a solution the company deployed SAP NetWeaver and SAP Services. | |||

Are You Protected by a Piece of Plastic and Two Screws?: Wiegand Had Its Day! Borer All-in-One Solution, Will Ensure Your Data Is Secure | 2007-10-01 | Borer Data Systems |
| The majority of cards and biometric readers in access control systems use a Wiegand interface to transmit data read from a card to a control panel. The control panel will then validate the date received and grant/deny access. Often people in the Access Control Industry accept the Wiegand interface as a standard. Wiegand is not a standard as there is no formal definition, ratified by ISO or the IEEE, of the Wiegand Interface against which manufacturers can measure the performance of their equipment. Wiegand is more of an informal working convention, which has allowed the manufacturers of card and biometric readers using a variety of reading technologies to connect their products to control panels produced by system integrators. | |||

Recipe for Mobile Data Security: TPM, Bitlocker, Windows Vista and Active Directory | 2007-10-01 | Erudio Security |
| If one's business is like mine, laptops regularly disappear. Until recently, centrally managed mobile storage encryption solutions for Windows environments were either too costly, required users to carry a key-resident device, or relied on keys residing on local disk. Sometimes the best solution under these circumstances was the presence of administrative controls (i.e. policies) prohibiting users from storing sensitive information on local laptop drives. With the proliferation of TPM 1.2 across most laptop platforms and the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, most roadblocks to laptop data encryption have been removed.
