whitepaper Community College District Upgrades to Centralized, Scalable Student Database2007-09-28 Microsoft
The Maricopa Community Colleges (MCCCD) in Arizona relied on 10 individual mainframe computers, one per college, to handle its business processes and its Student Information System (SIS). The complex mainframe environment not only required a great deal of customization but also kept student records at multiple sites. Seeking a centralized solution that would provide each student with a single data record, MCCCD contacted Hewlett-Packard (HP), Microsoft, and Intel. Representatives from the three companies, through the HP Microsoft Frontline Partnership, recommended HP hardware, Itanium technology, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to build a new Student Information System and a Decision Support System. The solution has helped the Maricopa Community Colleges build a reliable infrastructure that can grow with expanding enrollment and improve support services.
