Strategies for Active Content Collection and Archiving With Symantec Enterprise Vault and Guidance EnCase | 2008-01-10 | Symantec |
| Archiving simplifies and automates the collection of electronically stored information to support E-discovery and internal investigations but what about content that has never been archived? Discovery requests can expand beyond archived content to include active content on the desktop, file systems and other free-range content. As a result, E-discovery strategy must include a plan for the collection and preservation of active content. This webcast will investigate the role of Enterprise Vault archiving and Discovery Accelerator in the context of the E-Discovery Reference Model; strategies for capturing active content using Guidance EnCase; and strategies for integrating archiving and active content collection into the E-Discovery process.

Continuous File Integrity Monitoring: A New Approach for PCI DSS Compliance | 2008-01-07 | Solidcore Systems |
| When it comes to IT infrastructure, a strong compliance posture requires two key components trusted state and safe change actions. Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance, in particular, highlights the need for safe change actions. File Integrity Monitoring (FIM) is the capability to monitor files and directories on a server for change. The changes can be made to content, permissions or both. Note that only certain changes are relevant in a given situation. For example, PCI DSS compliance specifies that changes to existing data in log files must be detected, whereas the addition of new data can be ignored. For other files, such as critical configuration files, any change may be important.

IBM Case Study: GILFAM | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| GILFAM, the public organization whose mission is to automate the land registry in this area of France, engaged IBM to design, develop and run a system that would allow transactions to be made online, as well as maintain the authenticity of the transactions. In automating the land registry, GILFAM needed to find a way to make land titles and deeds available on demand, but only to those who need them. With electronic ownership deeds replacing paper records, authenticity and security were of primary concern. IBM designed and built an innovative information system to serve as the legal reference and clearinghouse for the owner of each piece of land.

The National Cancer Center in Japan Employs Advanced Text Analysis Tools to Help Match Patients With Treatment Protocols | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| IBM Research, working together with Global Business Services (GBS), teamed with the National Cancer Center in Japan to develop a prototype program for Medical Text Analysis and Knowledge Mining for Clinical Decision Intelligence. (MedTAKMI-CDI). MedTAKMI-CDI is an online analytical processing system that enables the gathering, interpretation and analysis of clinical data stored in multiple sources. MedTAKMI-CDI currently handles information on roughly 7,000 patients receiving treatment at the National Cancer Center. MedTAKMI-CDI employs a multi-level model for information gathering. Different modules within that framework cover everything from simple demographic information to treatment timetables. Compiling and analyzing warehouses of medical data, MedTAKMI-CDI helps provide hospitals with a plethora of information about patient groups.

A Model-Driven Approach to Analyzing and Capturing Pharmaceutical Research Processes | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| Despite year-to-year increases in research and development budgets, the number of successful new chemical entities continues to decline. IBM Research teamed with Bayer HealthCare Research, a leader in the health care and medical products industry, to develop an innovative approach to industrializing drug discovery. The collaboration involved formal modeling of research processes. Business operations models were defined in several joint exercises, formally describing specific research processes. These operations model were transformed into an abstract IT solution model, which was subsequently mapped into runtime components. A prototype system was built and validated, and researchers found that such modeling concepts are aligned with current thinking in pharmaceutical research.

Tough Problems Solved: Personal Shopping Assistant | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| Although the grocer already had an existing loyalty card program, it wanted a more precise, cost-effective way to reach customers - not after they made their purchases, but during the decision-making process. The solution was the IBM Personal Shopping Assistant called Shopping Buddy, which consists of a data management system, Wi-Fi network, infrared technology and Bluetooth transmissions centered around touch-screen computers mounted on shopping cart handles. It uses IBM Store Integration Framework, IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM WebSphere MQ messaging software, IBM Tivoli management software, IBM Mobile Tablet for Retail, as well as Cuesol's Cart Companion browser software.

An Asian Financial Services Powerhouse Looks to IBM for an Information Management Solution Designed to Help Enhance Customer Care and Track Business Trends and Opportunities | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| Customer care is a major differentiator in the highly competitive banking industry, and with hundreds of branches and multiple customer communications formats, providing a quick response can be a challenge. In addition, many organizations fail to leverage the customer information generated through such communications to seek out new business opportunities. IBM researchers worked to devise a first-of-a-kind, end-to-end solution for the client using two new information management tools designed to help enhance customer satisfaction and identify new business opportunities. SCORE (Symbiotic Content Oriented Information Retrieval) and EROCS (Entity RecOgnition in the Context of Structured data) automatically combine structured and unstructured data to help provide organizations with contextual and actionable insights that can help inform the decision-making process.

A Pharmaceutical Company Uses IBM's Business Insights Workbench to Mine Vast Stores of Structured and Unstructured Data | 2008-01-01 | IBM |
| The challenge was daunting: In the public domain alone, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database contains more than 7.9 million full text and drawings of U.S. patents since 1976 and full-page images since 1790. In addition, Medline, an indexing service for research in medicine and related fields provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, contains nearly 15 million citations and abstracts in the life sciences and biomedical fields. The solution was developed using the IBM Business Insights Workbench (BIW), which uses WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind technology for full-text search and content extraction. BIW's capabilities explore vast stores of both structured and unstructured data.
