Overview

It's now clear that video surveillance systems are trending away from analog CCTV to all-digital platforms. The advantages of digital video surveillance - including the ability for authorities to view video immediately after an incident, from virtually any location and over existing networks - are essential to actionable intelligence and swift response. But it's one thing to transmit surveillance video over existing networks, and another thing entirely to expect an existing enterprise network to provide the supporting infrastructure for the digital video surveillance system itself. Accommodating the resource-intensive nature of digital video surveillance in any existing network poses significant challenges, in terms of both infrastructure expense and administrative complexity.
