Managing Shims in the Enterprise: Practical Advice for Application Compatibility Mitigation | 2007-11-01 | Microsoft |
| When addressing application compatibility issues in preparation for a deployment of Windows Vista, among the most flexible and powerful tools available are application compatibility fixes, or shims. However, most organizations do not leverage shims to the extent that they could, either because they don't understand the underlying technology or because they do not have a process in place to manage shims over the lifetime of the applications they manage. In this white paper the author shares his experience and best practices working with large enterprise customers to address application compatibility issues using shims as well as how to manage an organization's custom shim databases. | |||

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is helping RPC meet these challenges by allowing the company to simulate design performance early in the development process. Its FEA solution is the Femap pre and post-processor and NX Nastran solver, both from Siemens PLM Software, a global division of Siemens Automation and Drives.

ITIL: Microsoft and Open Source | 2007-10-26 | Microsoft |
| Organizations live and die based on the efficiency, reliability, and security of Information Technology (IT). Because of this, IT must be fully aligned to the needs of all customers, internal and external. The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) provides a strategy to define, implement, and monitor that alignment across the full spectrum of IT processes, ranging from Incident and Problem Management to Security Management. This paper focuses specifically on the choices available from Microsoft and the open source community. Both offer solutions which can assist critical elements of ITIL. Some solutions are similar, while others are distinctive. This paper gives examples of different approaches to the issues which ITIL raises.
