whitepaper Pervasive PSQL v9 Compatibility With Windows Vista2007-01-01 Pervasive Software
For most users, adopting Windows Vista will require additional steps to perform operations that were previously handled as either a standard user or administrative user. The level of user interaction with the User Account Control (UAC) will vary based on application and security requirements. Most users will not see any difference between Windows Vista and other Microsoft platforms when running PSQL v9 server. For Workgroup users, the change is a bit more significant and users should evaluate the options for running in a standalone or peer-to-peer environment. Pervasive anticipates that adoption for Windows Vista will increase in late half of 2007 with widespread adoption in 2008. Based on analyst and media reports this is consistent with most assumptions.
whitepaper Create Custom Login Experiences With Credential Providers for Windows Vista2006-12-16 01:00:21 Microsoft
Windows Vista offers developers many new opportunities for integrating with the platform. The new Credential Provider model represents one of the most dramatic changes, making it much easier to implement new user authentication scenarios that are supported by the OS. This has replaced the GINA (Graphical Identification and Authentication) model-a model that, put bluntly, is known for being difficult for developers to understand and implement as well as being expensive for Microsoft to support. So why is a change to the Windows logon plug-in interface so exciting? This paper discusses the new Credential Provider architecture, why GINA-based authentication was dropped, multi-factor authentication, and developing and debugging a credential provider.
whitepaper Teach Your Apps to Play Nicely With Windows Vista User Account Control2006-12-16 01:00:21 Microsoft
The primary goal of User Account Control (UAC) is to make the default user token that applications are run with mimic that of a member of the Users group. This starts with creating a restricted, or filtered, token during interactive logon for users with elevated privileges. When more privileges are necessary to execute a restricted operation, the user will be prompted for authorization on the secure desktop. UAC also includes other technologies to support application compatibility and to secure the elevated processes.

Download this Opsware white paper to read more about the special management challenges that are part and parcel of virtual environments and to find out how you can better integrate physical and virtual server management.

whitepaper Windows Longhorn - AERO2006-12-09 01:00:17 Computer Performance
Longhorn is hard to define, but fortunately easy to use. From one perspective, Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open (AERO) is Longhorn's replacement of XP's Luna desktop. Others see AERO as Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0 and the GPU combining to deliver stunning visual displays. Microsoft would like to emphasis that AERO is the most efficient and intuitive front end to date.
