whitepaper HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7700 Software Overview2006-09-01 Hewlett-Packard
The purpose of this white paper is to present both an overview of the preinstalled software operating system support along with a brief description of major software components and features. This white paper covers the new HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7700 models, along with a comparison to HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7600 and the HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7100.
whitepaper Windows Longhorn: Using Group Policy to Control Device Management (Part 1)2006-08-31 TechGenix
This paper shows how to control access to devices via group policy in Longhorn Server. One particularly challenging aspect of Windows security has always been controlling the user's access to the hardware on their workstation. Years ago, some of the more security conscious companies were removing CD-ROM and floppy drives from workstations. Nowadays though, USB ports are an even more serious threat. Most electronics stores sell USB adapters for hard drives that allow the drives to be used externally. What this means is that it is easy for any user to plug in an external hard drive and copy all of the data that they have access to.

whitepaper OpenXUP - An Alternative Approach to Developing Highly Interactive Web Applications2006-08-11 University of New South Wales
This paper presents an alternative approach to creating highly interactive web user interfaces. The approach is based on the Extensible User Interface Protocol (XUP), a SOAP-based protocol for communicating events and incremental user interface updates on the web. On top of XUP, it has built a web user interface development framework, OpenXUP, consisting of a thin client and a server toolkit which offers a set of event-driven APIs. The framework allows for the rapid development of highly interactive web applications and services.

whitepaper XUPClient - A Thin Client for Rich Internet Applications2006-08-11 Hewlett-Packard
With the help of rich web client technologies, developers are creating rich internet applications in response to end users' growing demand in richer web experiences. However, most of these technologies are fat client based. That is, to enable rich user interfaces, application code, whether binary or script, must be downloaded and executed on the client side. This paper proposes a thin client based approach - XUPClient, a rich web client aimed at closing the gap between web and desktop user interfaces. XUPClient allows end users to interact with rich UI components only found in desktop environment, while remaining thin in terms of application logic; i.e. all application code resides on the server side, and the client only renders declarative UI definitions.

whitepaper Achieving Automated Compliance2006-08-01 BigFix
In this new issue of BigFix's "IT Executive Briefings," you'll learn how a security configuration management solution that provides real-time visibility into thousands of PCs, laptops, and servers can help today's distributed enterprises automate their regulatory compliance efforts. The paper includes a reprint of Gartner's January 2006 RAS Core Research Note, "The Chief Information Security Officer's Guide to Compliance," which offers keen insights into the reasons why compliance is largely "a negotiation with the auditor" and why auditors expect your controls to be organized, well-documented, and defensible.

whitepaper Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional on PCs With Intel vPro Technology2006-08-01 Intel
Adobe customers can now take advantage of the enhanced performance and capabilities of PCs with Intel vPro technology in order to take Web-based collaboration to the next level. PCs with Intel vPro technology feature dual-core technology and include next generation graphics with advanced video capabilities, integrated audio, and support for technologies such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Capitalizing on these capabilities, Acrobat Connect Professional enables users to create and share even more streams of voice, video, and animations at the same time, and with higher quality audio and graphics. For Acrobat Connect Professional users, PCs with Intel vPro technology provide an outstanding foundation for the next generation of collaboration capabilities.
whitepaper Benefits of the Virtual Desktop on Enterprise Networks: Introducing Enterprise Desktop Virtualization2006-08-01 Wyse Technology
The personal computer revolution is far from over, but enterprises are rightfully questioning the high maintenance costs, endless replacement cycles and security vulnerabilities that plague the standard networked PC. A breakthrough in thin computing now promises to end the PC monopoly on the desktop while giving users improved access to their favorite productivity applications. Called Enterprise Desktop Virtualization, or EDV, this solution combines all of the performance, reliability of support benefits of the latest thin client workstations from Wyse Technology, the leading provider of thin computing systems, with powerful virtualization software from VMware running on centralized servers. The EDV alternative to PCs and conventional PC networks is explored in depth in this white paper.

whitepaper Thin Client Operating System: eLux NG for FUTRO2006-08-01 Unicon Software
eLux NG (eLux Next Generation) is a newly designed Linux-based embedded operating system, especially developed for FUTRO and SCOVERYs used as Thin Clients in server-based environments, thus taking advantage of the centralization in networks and the reduction of the Total Cost of Ownership for which Thin Clients are known. The eLuxNG software has consolidated the 3-year old eLux1.1 software to a flexible solution supporting more and more hardware platforms. This new flexibility is necessary to use the dynamics of the Open Source development for the evolution of Thin Client computing.

whitepaper Reducing Manual Processes With Improved Remote Security, Inventory, and Problem Resolution2006-08-01 Intel
Intel vPro technology delivers powerful new hardware-based capabilities that improve remote management of desktop PCs. These capabilities can help Information Technology (IT) service providers, such as Siemens Business Services (Siemens), improve remote discovery, inventory, problem resolution, maintenance, and security when managing a fleet of desktop systems. In particular, the capabilities built into these PCs will allow Siemens to perform and automate management and security tasks even if a PC is powered off, its Operating System (OS) is inoperative, or management agent are missing.
