Mobile Certification Company Simplifies Migration With New Tool | 2007-06-27 | Microsoft |
| The leading mobile communications certification company in Taiwan, Sporton International Inc. wanted to upgrade its operating system from Windows 2000 Professional Edition and Windows XP to Windows Vista. The company wanted to know which of its computers were ready for Windows Vista. Based on previous upgrade experiences, the company planned to perform this inventory manually on 300 PCs and expected the process to take at least a month. Instead, the company turned to Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, SYSTEX, the largest systems integrator and Microsoft Large Account Reseller in Taiwan, for assistance. The company introduced Sporton Lab to the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment tool, which is part of a family of Solution Accelerators that are available for download at no cost from the Microsoft TechNet Web site.

Integrating Desktop Applications for Power System Restoration Drills | 2007-06-26 | Environmental Systems Research Institute |
| The Midwest ISO (MISO), the Regional Transmission Operator (RTO) for much of central North America, facilitates an annual Power System Restoration Drill. The drill has more than 700 participants from the MISO's member companies, neighboring RTO's and other power companies. In 2005 the MISO built an integrated process using ArcView, AutoCAD, and standard desktop applications to communicate system restoration efforts by all participants. During the drill members notified the MISO of what transmission lines were recently brought back into service, this information updated regional transmission system maps that were then distributed to all drill participants. | |||

Using the Java Persistence API in Desktop Applications | 2007-06-01 | Sun Microsystems |
| The JSR 220 specification defines Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0. One of its primary goals is to simplify the creation, management, and storage of entity beans. Working towards that goal, Sun Microsystems and supporting community developers created a new Application Programming Interface (API) that lets one use "Plain old Java objects" or POJOs as the persistable entities. The Java Persistence API facilitates the use of POJOs as entity beans and significantly reduces the need for complicated deployment descriptors and extra helper beans. Additionally, one can even use the API in desktop applications.
