| Taking advantage of Remote Installation Services (RIS) and Group Policy features in the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system, the Corporate Services Division Information Technology Management Branch (ITMB), serving two British Columbia environmental ministries, was able to perform a completely unattended installation of both the operating system and applications in an average of 40 minutes per desktop. These capabilities will help reduce deployment costs, automate future software upgrades, and simplify hardware additions and changes.
