Thin Computing ROI: The Untold Story | 2005-11-01 | IDG (International Data Group) |
| Thin computing is the complete spectrum of hardware, services, and software solutions that allow people using thin clients, PCs, wireless devices, and other systems to securely access the information and the applications they need. Enterprise thin clients, the desktop component of thin computing are one of the least understood hardware options available to today's IT managers, yet they are one of the most cost-effective and secure options. This paper analyzes the opportunity for enterprise thin clients, focusing specifically on how a thin computing model compares with traditional client/server architecture with PCs when it comes to ROI.

2X ThinClientServer: How It Works | 2005-10-21 | 2X Software |
| 2X ThinClientServer provides a complete solution for the central deployment, configuration and management of thin clients and provides load balancing and redundancy of terminal servers. A small footprint Linux distribution is deployed to thin clients (all popular thin clients are supported) OR to normal PCs, allowing the user to convert existing PCs to thin clients. Thin client settings (screen size, which terminal servers to log into, etc.) can be controlled centrally. 2X ThinClientServer is thin client vendor independent: The user can use old computers, new low cost computers and dedicated thin client devices from different vendors - and manage all these thin clients through one consistent and open interface.

Virtual Client Strategy: Flexible Approaches to Consolidate Client Environments for Reduced Complexity and Cost With Greater Business Agility | 2005-09-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| The virtual client model builds on the principles of server-based computing, but goes further to employ an integrated suite of sophisticated components, including hardware, software, security, management, and services. Thin client devices on the user side then have ubiquitous, advanced access to a personalized, portable, and consistently presented desktop - regardless of network connection, type of access device, or physical location. As a result, both IT needs and user needs can be managed more easily and with improved security features in a consolidated environment. This white paper provides an overview of the virtual client computing model and its implications for addressing the most pressing IT challenges.

How CLI Thin Clients Can Work in Education Environments | 2005-04-28 | Computer Lab International |
| Use of CLI thin client devices instead of PCs or other devices in education environments can dramatically reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and improve the delivery of educational content in the process. CLI thin clients can be used in K-12 settings, and also in university settings, by students, teachers, and administrators alike. To fully understand this, it is important to understand what server-based computing is, and what CLI thin clients are.

DTW - DODIIS Trusted Workstation: Intelligence Paradigm for the 21st Century | 0000-00-00 | Sun Microsystems |
| Today's war on terror has placed renewed emphasis on the military's need to obtain information in a secure and cost-effective manner. DODIIS Trusted Workstation (DTW) is that edge. DTW is an initiative that was jointly developed by Sun Microsystems and Trusted Computer Solutions (TCS). The heart of the system is the secure operating system, "Trusted Solaris", that can maintain segregation of differing security classification and sensitivity levels on a single physical computer. When the Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Center, (JICPAC) implemented DTW, Trusted Solaris was a key factor in helping them reduce the number of compute systems previously dedicated to running compartmented applications.

Configuring a Windows XP Embedded Thin Client | 2005-04-01 | Microsoft |
| This white paper provides an overview of the initial steps needed to customize a Windows XP Embedded run-time image for thin clients. It gives an overview of the hardware on the development system that is used in the run-time image's Hardware Abstraction Layer. It explains how to run Target Analyzer to create a Devices.pmq file that includes all the device drivers required to operate the target hardware. It describes how to use Component Designer to create a component definition (.sld) file that lists the hardware components for the run-time image. The white paper also explains how to add missing components to the .sld file, and how to customize the configuration by adding additional components.

Thin Client Architecture Design for World Largest Paints Manufacturer | 0000-00-00 | Wipro |
| Client is one of the world's largest makers of paints and industrial coatings and has the widest geographic spread of any international paint business. The environment considered for Thin client architecture is for the European region, which is spread over 9 countries including 25 sites and 2500 users. The client systems currently used were NT and Windows 9x, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The network is based on leased line or Frame relay. Wipro conducted a data gathering exercise, which included information about the existing IT infrastructure required for designing the Thin client architecture.

A Thin Client Solution for Retail POS | 0000-00-00 | Amir Technology Labs |
| The client corporation is Canada's leading drugstore retail chain on the forefront of technology in the pharmaceutical retail industry. The IT project development team needed a reliable and efficiently networked system. NetTerminal offered standard TCP/IP technology that required minimal software installation if any. Up to 12 full-screen colored TELNET sessions are available through standard Ethernet or SLIP connections. This provides flexible software upgrades over the network, thus ensuring device longevity and preservation of the initial investment.

Thin Is in - Thin Clients Save Time and Money | 2004-11-03 | JupiterMedia |
| A thin client is a network computer without a hard disk drive. In a thin client environment, all the network intelligence resides on a central server: That's where the applications run, rather than on individual desktops. A thin client comes with its own memory, processor, Internet browser and a variety of ports for connecting peripherals.

"Thin" Vs. "Fat" Visualization Clients | 2003-10-24 | Advanced Visual Systems |
| A thin client, by definition, have minimal software requirements necessary to function as a user interface front-end for a Web enabled application and raises the issue of client vs. server data visualization rendering. Real-time visual data manipulation doesn't translate well into a "thin" client. While the VRML file format allows distribution of visualization scenes to the Web, the user has no access to the actual underlying data source. The "mapping" of numeric data into geometry format (VRML) takes place at the server side.
