| The implementation of measurement data logging with data communication based on Bluetooth technology is described. The design, implementation and testing of two applications are presented. The first application is an alarm system to monitor alarm sensors and warning systems on a mobile device. The second application is a temperature and voltage measurement system, which transfers temperature and voltage values. Both applications are built up around a Bluetooth developer kit. A Bluetooth enabled mobile notebook PC or a PDA acts as a server. The implementation methodology consisting of application architecture design, technological design, software design, recording of measurement data, Bluetooth data transfer, and visualization of measurement data is described in detail. | |||

| This paper describes initial efforts at Hewlett-Packard Labs, Bangalore, to create datasets of online handwriting in Indic scripts to support research in online handwriting recognition for the Indic scripts. The term "online" here refers to the fact that handwriting is captured as a stream of (x,y) points using an appropriate pen position sensor (often called a digitizer), rather than as a bitmap (image). The paper describes the structure of Indic scripts in brief. It identifies different choices for segmenting characters into simpler shapes that can then be recognized using pattern recognition techniques. The paper discusses these issues in the context of the Tamil script. | |||

| Mobile agents are ideal for mobile computing environments because of their ability to support asynchronous communication and disconnected data processing. This paper presents a prototype set of extensible mobile-agent based services that allow the definition, materialization, maintenance and sharing of views created over remote web-accessible datasources, called ViSMA (Views Supported by Mobile Agents). ViSMA's primary goal is to support the customization and personalization of views by mobile users carrying lightweight devices of various connectivity and resources such as portable computers and PDAs.

| Traditional digital forensics methods are based on the in-depth examination of computer systems in a lab setting. Such methods are however relatively heavyweight and expensive and require significant expertise on part of the investigator. Thus, they cannot be applied on a wider scale and, in particular, they cannot be used as a tool by regular law enforcement officers in their daily work. This paper motivates the need for on-the-spot digital forensics tools that supplement lab methods and discuss the specific user and software engineering requirements for such tools. It presents the Bluepipe architecture for on-the-spot investigation and the Bluepipe remote forensics protocol that is developed and relates them to a set of requirements. |
