whitepaper Using Bluetooth for Informationally Enhanced Environments2005-08-09 03:00:02
The continued miniaturization in computing and wireless communication is about to make informationally enhanced environments become a reality. Already today, devices like a notebook computer or a personal digital assistant (PDA) can easily connect to the Internet via IEEE 802.11 networks (WaveLAN) or similar technologies provided at so-called hot-spots. In the near future, even smaller devices can join a wireless network to exchange status information or send and receive commands. This paper presents sample uses of a generic Bluetooth component that is developed and that has been successfully integrated into various miniature devices to transmit sensor data or exchange control commands.
whitepaper Using Visual Tags to Bypass Bluetooth Device Discovery2005-08-09 03:00:02
One factor that has limited the use of Bluetooth as a networking technology for publicly accessible mobile services is the way in which it handles Device Discovery. Establishing a Bluetooth connection between two devices that have not seen each other before is slow and, from a usability perspective, often awkward. This paper presents the implementation of an end-to-end Bluetooth-based mobile service framework designed specifically to address this issue.

whitepaper QUALCOMM Case Study: Ogden Air Logistics Center at Hill Air Force Base 2005-10-25 03:00:03
The Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) at Hill Air Force Base in Northern Utah is a depot repair level maintenance facility. The base's drivers needed access to the AMTS application wherever they were, so the Air Force put out an RFP for a wireless solution that would meet all Federal Government security standards, would enable seamless roaming and would be device agnostic. The OO-ALC's IT department selected the IBM WebSphere application server and WebSphere Everywhere Access (WEA) middleware because they were FIPS-140 certified. They also selected Intermec 760 ruggedized PDAs - with built-in barcode scanners - for its driver alerts, notifications and route management. Among wireless data service providers, they opted for Sprint's CDMA2000 1X data network because of its wireless coverage and the company's expertise in data communications.
