  Off late, consumer electronic devices and PCs are inevitable parts of the daily life. Controlling those devices remotely is an important aspect of the technology. One has already universal remote control devices for controlling consumer electronic devices. Similarly, the user may control the desktop and laptop PCs and their applications remotely via portable and smaller computers like PDAs and Pocket PCs. This paper presents a system and its architecture that enable a wireless-enabled PDA to control a PC and its applications remotely over a 802.11 or Bluetooth link. With such a system running on a PDA, a user can start, run and control PC applications from any location that is reachable via 802.11 link.

  China Post Logistics Co. Ltd (CNPL) was established on 18 Jan 2003. It is a subsidiary of China State Post Bureau and has a registered capital of RMB 200 million. CNPL had great difficulty obtaining business data in a timely manner at each point of the logistics process. The former business model required each transaction to be manually keyed into the information system. As a result, the logistical information could not be recorded in a timely manner. In order to enhance service quality and boost competitiveness, CNPL's goal was to provide door-to-door services for its customers. CNPL decided to automate their information processing using Motorola's MC3000 mobile computers. The solution uses barcode on each item and a detailed worksheet printed with barcodes to record logistics information.

  Aarhus Kommune was determined to improve the quality of life of its elderly citizens, and wanted to explore recent technological advancements to improve quality of care and better sustain the health of its aging populace. The key challenge was to involve elderly citizens actively in coordinated care and improve management of the chronic ailments of this growing demographic. With assistance from IBM Global Business Services, Aarhus Kommune developed a blueprint for an integrated solution based on pervasive technology that could improve the quality of healthcare and homecare division care. Eight elderly patients volunteered to test the solution through a pilot program called "Eldertech," which involved providing each test subject with IBM Personal Care Connect devices and Lenovo ThinkPad X Series Tablet devices for home use over a four-month trial period.

  This paper reports a qualitative study of the use of physical space and wireless laptops by ten United States households. Although wireless laptops purportedly offer the opportunity and affordances to go "Anywhere in the home," laptops were generally used in a small set of particular places rather than moving fluidly through the home: wireless laptops were portable, but not mobile per se. The paper presents factors that influence laptop movement in the home. It also presents a model of people's use of space in the home, identifying a small set of favored places of long-term use and a larger set of kinetic places used for specific tasks.

Developing an adaptive and context aware mobile learning system is presented. Therein, the proposed technique would definitely enhance the lecturer's hand written notes to integrate PDAs in classroom. Future development approaches for systems supporting learning environments is considered.
