Supporting Personalised Learning - The Interactive Logbook University of Birmingham | 0000-00-00 | Higher Education Funding Council for England |
| The Interactive Logbook was developed as a research project within the Centre for Educational Technology and Distance Learning (CETADL) at the University of Birmingham. The aim was to design a flexible suite of software applications optimised for use on tablet PCs which, in conjunction with a secure Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), could support student learning in a variety of settings - lecture theatres, libraries, common rooms and individual workspaces. Installed on a tablet PC, the Logbook will support learning tasks involving discovery, problem-solving, collaboration and the sharing of resources. Taking a personal device wherever you learn encourages a sense of ownership of learning and increases control over the learning process, building evidence for personal development planning.

Learning Without Boundaries: A University for the 21st Century | 0000-00-00 | Higher Education Funding Council for England |
| The widening participation agenda will increase diversity among the student population, with more students coming into universities without formal qualifications. Increasingly, they will have substantial part time jobs in order to fund their education. The issue of retention will consequently be significant, and technology-based solutions will be required to deliver learning and support wherever students are, whenever they want it. Every student receives on enrolment a personal fourth generation handheld device, including PDA and phone functionality, the costs of which are covered in part by tuition fees and in part by sponsorship. When a student arrives at the campus, the student's identity is beamed to the desktop from the handheld.

iBook Laptops Help Students Improve Writing Scores | 0000-00-00 | Apple Computer |
| The Peace River North School District encompasses rural, semi-rural and urban areas with a population of 5908 students, served by 20 schools of varying sizes. The district ranges from the one-county schoolhouse to an ultra modern senior secondary school with more than 850 students. Given the diverse school population, the challenge for the district's educators was to assist teachers in motivating their students to improve their writing skills. In February 2002, the Peace River North School District spearheaded the launch of a Wireless Writing Program that initially gave sixth- and seventh-grade students in five classrooms constant access to their own iBook laptops to use throughout the school year.

Apple Computer Case Study: Fremont High School | 0000-00-00 | Apple Computer |
| In most geometry classes, students use a compass, a ruler, and a protractor at their desks. But at Fremont High School (FHS), students who need to compute the volume of an object are more likely to grab a camcorder and an iBook laptop from the school's new Math Curriculum Mobile Lab and head out the door. Thanks to the wireless laptops and the faculty's innovative use of such programs as iMovie, Destination Math, and Mathematica, students are now using technology in the math curriculum from beginning algebra to AP calculus.

Internet Operations Center Case Study: Pontiac Schools-Wireless Network | 0000-00-00 | Internet Operations Center |
| Pontiac Schools needed to design a system to allow teachers to create/grade quizzes, pass out homework assignments and communicate with parents using a PDA. A major drawback to most programs is that each student must individually synchronize the PDA via infra-red "beaming" technology. With large numbers of students per classroom, individual beaming is not feasible. IOC needed to architect a system that would allow anyone, from anywhere in the classroom, to send and receive data concurrently.
