Configuring a Windows XP Embedded Thin Client | 2005-08-09 03:00:02
| This white paper provides an overview of the initial steps needed to customize a Windows XP Embedded run-time image for thin clients. It gives an overview of the hardware on the development system that is used in the run-time image's Hardware Abstraction Layer. It explains how to run Target Analyzer to create a Devices.pmq file that includes all the device drivers required to operate the target hardware. It describes how to use Component Designer to create a component definition (.sld) file that lists the hardware components for the run-time image. The white paper also explains how to add missing components to the .sld file, and how to customize the configuration by adding additional components. | |||

Kiosk/ATM Operating System Platforms | 2006-11-08 01:00:18 | Microsoft |
| Kiosks are increasingly used by a wide range of retail, hospitality, and financial institutions to provide more convenient access to information, accelerate self-service transactions, and reduce the cost of customer service delivery. This paper explains why Windows XP Embedded is the preferred Windows Embedded operating system platform for building a wide range of kiosks, including Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) that leverage low-cost PC architecture hardware while providing the ability to deliver the latest Windows XP services. | |||

Application of Quantum Cryptography for Government and Military | 2005-09-01 03:00:03
| As the threat profile continues to grow, the need to increase the level of network security has never been greater. The United States Government, led by agencies such as the Army Research Organization (ARO), The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), The Advanced Research and Development Activity (ARDA), The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Los Alamos National Laboratory have made the real world deployment of quantum cryptography a top priority. MagiQ Technologies has leveraged this important work to deliver the first product based on quantum cryptography: Quantum Private Network (QPN). | |||

A Qualitative Methodology for Tailoring SPE Activities in Embedded Platform Development | 2006-04-25 03:54:23
| For real time embedded systems software performance is one of the most important quality attributes. Controlling and predicting the software performance in software is associated with a number of challenges. One of the challenges is to tailor the established and rather general performance activities to the needs and available opportunities of a specific organization. This paper presents a qualitative methodology for tailoring process activities to a specific organization. The proposed methodology is used in case study performed in a large company that develops embedded platforms. A number of suggestions for modification and addition of process activities has been brought forward as a result of the paper. | |||

Dismounting Volumes in a Hibernate Once/Resume Many Configuration | 2005-08-09 03:00:02
| Using the Microsoft Windows Embedded with Service Pack 2 Hibernate Once/Resume Many functionality not only protects your system from unwanted write access, but it also provides for quicker boot times. However, one of the limitations of this implementation is that if you have more than one partition on your system, all of the partitions on your system must be protected by the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF). This white paper discusses how to configure your run-time image to support multiple partitions that do not need to be protected by EWF. | |||

Dual-Booting Tips for Windows XP Embedded | 2005-08-09 03:00:02
| Many first-time Windows XP Embedded developers choose their own development system as a Windows XP Embedded target platform. Known as dual-booting, this allows the developer to build the Windows XP Embedded operating system in Windows XP Professional, download the operating system to a separate partition or hard drive, and then reboot the machine into Windows XP Embedded. Dual-booting saves money, because it is no longer necessary to buy a separate computer as a target. Dual-booting is one of the most popular target methods when getting familiar with Windows XP Embedded. This paper discusses some of the tricks to use to solve dual-boot configuration issues. | |||

How to Demonstrate Windows XP Embedded Using Virtual PC | 2005-08-09 03:00:02
| In a presentation demonstrating Window XP Embedded's power and usability, it's common to only have a single machine available. You can use two partitions; however, you must then reboot your machine to switch from Windows XP Professional to Windows XP Embedded. In a presentation, this is not the ideal scenario. This paper describes how to use Microsoft Virtual PC to host a Windows XP Embedded image on your Windows XP Professional machine, and how to create the Windows XP Embedded image in a single partition, using Windows PE to transfer the image. | |||
