whitepaper Maximizing the Performance of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time for Financial Services Applications on AMD64 Technology2007-02-21 Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
In the financial services industry, literally millions of dollars can be earned or lost in a few milliseconds. Trades and transactions must execute immediately, accurately, and predictably every time, or opportunities can be missed in the competitive world of financial services. One proven solution is SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time from Novell, optimized for the new HP BladeSystem solutions running on Second-Generation AMD Opteron processors. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time is comprised of two core technologies: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and Concurrent Real Time Extensions (CRTE). SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 is a Linux OS offering robust flexibility for enterprise applications.

whitepaper Parallel Multiprocessor Computing Model Using Independent Active OPUs2007-02-17 PRODATA
In the recent times people are facing a new shift in computing philosophy, caused by advance of new hardware architecture and even better performance. Multi-core architecture will become prevailing in near future. What can be done in order to take advantage of this? This paper is about the one of possible solutions people can have. The author proposed computing model also provides some answers to questions raised in a paper published in Berkeley.

whitepaper Reflections on Building a High-Performance Computing Cluster Using FreeBSD2007-02-15 Aerospace
Off late this paper has developed and maintained a general purpose technical and scientific computing cluster running the FreeBSD operating system. In that time they have grown from a cluster of 8 dual Intel Pentium III systems to the current mix of 64 dual Intel Xeon and 289 dual AMD Opteron systems. This paper looks back on the system architecture as documented in the BSDCon 2003 paper "Building a High-performance Computing Cluster Using FreeBSD" and the changes since that time. After a brief overview of the current cluster they revisit the architectural decisions in that paper and reflect on their long term success.

whitepaper Public Broadcaster Uses IT Technologies to Reduce Operational Costs Up to $100 Million0000-00-00 Microsoft
In these days' competitive media markets, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) faces rising competition and substantial capital requirements. In a bold move to reduce capital and operational costs and position itself for the move to digital TV, PBS recently launched the ACE project, an overhaul of its operations and distribution systems. PBS is replacing expensive broadcast equipment with IT building blocks based on the Microsoft .NET Framework, Microsoft Windows Server System, Intel Xeon processor - based servers, and Intel Pentium 4 processor - based workstations. ACE is projected to save PBS up to U.S.$100 million annually in operational costs, simplify local programming operations, and enable further investment in high-quality, compelling, and culturally relevant programming.

whitepaper Bringing Open Source Virtualization to the Financial Services Market2007-02-05 Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
No industry puts a higher premium on the speed, security, and reliability of IT infrastructures than financial services. And the keys to improving performance in each of those categories lie in the data center. Open source operating systems such as the SUSE Linux Enterprise operating system are letting companies add business-specific features to their applications for a real competitive advantage. Server virtualization technologies from XenSource are optimizing the utilization of every server. And Second-Generation AMD Opteron processors with AMD Virtualization technology (AMD-V) are providing the hardware platform for both, helping companies squeeze the maximum performance and efficiency out of each server in the data center.

whitepaper Software Company Delivers 64-Bit Fidelity and Speed for Computer-Aided Engineering0000-00-00 Microsoft
Fluent, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ANSYS, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), provides simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes. Fluent Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is used for simulation, visualization, and prediction of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions. Fluent customers performing simulations on the Windows operating system want to include more detail and accuracy in their modeling, while reducing the turnaround time for computations. To meet this need, Fluent ported and optimized its fluid flow simulation software, FLUENT V6.3, to run on the 64-bit Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 operating system.

whitepaper A Performance Comparison of Hypervisors2007-02-01 EMC
Virtualization has rapidly attained mainstream status in enterprise IT by delivering transformative cost savings as well as increased operational efficiency, flexibility and IT service levels. Intel and AMD have independently developed virtualization extensions to the x86 architecture called hardware virtualization. This and other hardware advances such as multicore processors are further fueling the adoption of virtualization. While a full virtual service-oriented infrastructure is composed of a wide array of technologies that provide resource aggregation, management, availability and mobility, the foundational core of virtual infrastructure is the hypervisor. This paper provides a quantitative and qualitative comparison of two virtualization hypervisors available for the x86 architecture - VMware ESX Server 3.0.1 and open-source Xen 3.0.3 - to validate their readiness for enterprise datacenters.

whitepaper Tuning the Performance of ANSYS FLUENT on IBM BladeCenter HS21 and HS21 Extended Memory2007-02-01 IBM
This paper examines some of the factors that affect the performance of the ANSYS FLUENT benchmark running on IBM BladeCenter HS21 and its latest refresh, the IBM BladeCenter HS21 extended memory. Factors the paper examines include the choice of processor, BIOS configuration, memory configuration, choice of network, task layout and number of processors per blade. The paper also compares its performance against the IBM BladeCenter HS20 and the AMD Opteron LS21 for IBM BladeCenter. Compared to the HS20 and LS21, the HS21 and HS21 extended memory perform well on this benchmark even in an untuned state, but tuning can provide significant additional performance.

whitepaper Boosting Server Virtualization Performance2007-02-01 Intel
Using a performance-driven methodology to compare the operating costs of server virtualization platforms, Intel IT demonstrated an average 1.6x performance improvement and up to a 30 percent cost reduction with the Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor X5355 running at 2.66 GHz as compared to its predecessor, the Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5160 running at 3.0 GHz. The paper approximated the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of each platform by measuring workload performance, platform performance, and power consumption.
