whitepaper Global Solutions Acceleration Program Helps Optimize Linux Solutions for Intel Platforms0000-00-00 Red Hat
This brief but informative brochure details how participation in the Red Hat®-Intel® Global Solutions Acceleration Program is helping software companies and enterprise IT organizations accelerate the deployment of Linux* solutions optimized for Intel platforms. The brochure describes the facilities and other resources that are available through the Global Solutions Acceleration Program and explains how those resources can help you:
  • Perform accurate proof-of-concept testing
  • Test applications for compatibility with Intel platforms and
    Red Hat software
  • Obtain help from experts at both companies
  • Tune and optimize configurations prior to deployment
  • Shorten your project's time to value (TTV)
Download the paper today to learn more about the Global Solutions Acceleration Program and how it can help you get the most from Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Intel platforms.

whitepaper LPAR Security on POWER5 Processor-Based Systems2006-09-07 IBM
The concept of consolidating many disparate systems onto a single physical piece of hardware while maintaining them as separate system images has long existed with the IBM System z mainframes and now exists in the IBM System p and System i starting with the introduction of the POWER4 processor-based servers. IBM's POWER processor-based servers now offer the ability to consolidate hardware while maintaining the same separation that physical systems provide (often referred to as an "Air gap"). Both the System z systems and POWER processor-based systems rely on the concept of a "Hypervisor" to ensure the separation of partitions creating this "Virtual air gap".

whitepaper Evaluation of ESX Server Under CPU Intensive Workloads2006-09-06 Brigham Young University
Virtual machines are used by IT departments to provide better hardware utilization and to isolate users and programs from each other. The paper explores how configuration changes affect the throughput of virtual machines hosted on ESX Server during CPU intensive workloads. In particular the paper explores how Hyper-Threading, Virtual SMP, and the amount of RAM allocated affect throughput. Hyper-Threading is Intel's implementation of simultaneous multithreading technology and was introduced with the Xeon processor. Virtual SMP allows ESX Server to host virtual machines with two virtual processors.

whitepaper Improved Read Performance in a Cost-Effective, Fault-Tolerant Parallel Virtual File System (CEFT-PVFS)0000-00-00 Huazhong University of Science & Technology
Due to the ever-widening performance gap between processors and disks, I/O operations tend to become the major performance bottleneck of data-intensive applications on modern clusters. CEFT-PVFS (a RAID 10 style parallel file system that extends the original PVFS), as one such system, divides the cluster nodes into two groups, stripes the data across one group in a round-robin fashion, and then duplicates the same data to the other group to provide storage service of high performance and high reliability. This paper presents another benefit of CEFT-PVFS in which the aggregate peak read performance can be improved by as much as 100% over that of the original PVFS by exploiting the increased parallelism.

whitepaper IBM eServer pSeries Hardware Management Console Security0000-00-00 UniRecovery
The pSeries Hardware Management Console (HMC) was introduced in 2001 at the same time as the POWER4 family of AIX 5L servers. It consists of a 32-bit Intel processor-based computer running a modified Linux operating system. The primary function of the HMC is to run a graphical user interface based on Java that provides management tools for controlling one or more POWER4 servers and associated Logical PARtitions (LPARs). This white paper describes what IBM has done to protect the HMC from unauthorized access or exploitation in a networked environment.

whitepaper IDC Technical Brief: Enabling Technologies for Power and Cooling2006-09-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
In June 2006, Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced its next-generation blade portfolio, the BladeSystem c-Class, which addresses some of the total cost of ownership (TCO) issues that typify high-density computing environments. Among the concerns addressed by HP's newest line of blade servers is the need to manage power and cooling at the rack level. This IDC Technical Brief discusses this issue at length and explains how HP Thermal Logic technologies, introduced with the BladeSystem c-Class portfolio, can help manage and optimize power and cooling resources in high-density data centers.

whitepaper Integrated Lights Out (iLO & iLO 2) for Integrity and HP9000 Entry-Level Servers2006-09-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management processor for entry-level Integrity and HP9000 servers is an autonomous management subsystem embedded directly on the server. Like all management processors in the Integrity and HP9000 product line, it is the foundation of the server's High Availability (HA), embedded health, and fault management capabilities. It also provides system administrators secure remote management capabilities regardless of server status or location. This paper discusses the comprehensive combination of remote management capabilities and fault management features made available with Integrated Lights-Out technology.

whitepaper HP StorageWorks XP12000 Disk Array Best Practices for Performance Guidelines White Paper2006-09-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The HP StorageWorks XP12000 Disk Array has the highest availability of any previous generation XP array and clearly outperforms the competition. The long-established design principles for the StorageWorks XP systems are, in priority order, to ensure uncompromising reliability and availability to provide a storage platform enabling advanced features and functions for the most demanding Storage Area Network (SAN) environment workloads. When configuring to optimize performance, the XP12000 Disk Array has differences from previous XP arrays that must be considered. The XP12000 Disk Array is architecturally different than the HP StorageWorks XP1024 Disk Array.
