whitepaper Leading Travel Firm Flies High With HP-AMD Solution0000-00-00 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Sabre Holding Corp.'s Global Distribution System (GDS) processes more than 48 million travel shopping, pricing, and availability transactions daily. Faced with dramatic increases in demand for its online travel and decision-support services, the firm needed to update its aging mainframe applications and hardware infrastructure in order to reduce costs of operation, increase service flexibility, and ensure availability. After comparing the features, performance characteristics and reliability of the AMD Opteron processor-based HP ProLiant DL585 against other 64-bit platforms, travel-giant Sabre Holdings went with ProLiant servers running Linux Red Hat 3.0. These systems serve as the application-processing layer in a multi-tier architecture, which also includes HP NonStop and HP Integrity servers.

Headquartered in St. Johann in the Tyrol region of Austria, FRITZ EGGER GmbH ≈ Co. is a leading producer of wood-based materials in Europe. FRITZ EGGER was running 16 separate SAP ERP environments, supporting a total of 2,000 users, on proprietary HP Alpha servers running HP True64 UNIX. whitepaper VMware Case Study: Pathology Partners0000-00-00 EMC
Founded in 1996 to deliver superior pathology diagnostic services for physicians and patients, Pathology Partners serves Gastro-Intestinal (GI) specialists with freestanding endoscopy centers. The company needed six different servers to run its lab system. The company wanted a solution that would not only provide high availability and application uptime, but allow IT to eliminate servers and consolidate hardware for reduced maintenance and total cost of ownership. This was solved by deploying NEC's Express5800/320Lb fault tolerant server, which features 2 Intel Xeon MP 2.4 GHz processors, with a 512KB cache. It also helped consolidate its six servers to a single FT server, with all of its lab applications in a virtual stack.
