Managing Multiple Printers at a Time | 2008-09-24 | Packt Publishing |
| Unlike other printing systems, CUPS features a way to let one select a group of printers to print a job instead of selecting just one. In that way, if one printer is busy or down, another printer can be automatically selected to perform the job. Such groupings of printers are called printer classes. | |||

Multiple Monitor Energy Use | 2008-09-01 | |
| As people move from a physical desk to a digital one, one of the limitations that they encounter is their digital desktop size. Often limited to a single display, they are only able to view one digital document or application at a time, which can make many simple tasks very time consuming. By adding more displays to their computers, these users can quickly increase their productivity up to 50% depending on the nature of their work while at the same time making fewer mistakes. Additional displays are also important for people who need to monitor information from multiple sources simultaneously as it allows them to view several applications at once. | |||

Controlling Your Print Spend: Enterprise Print Sourcing in Today's Businesses | 2008-09-01 | Xerox |
| All organizations, regardless of size, must produce printed materials for themselves and for their clients. The larger the organization, the greater its printing needs, but the less likely that print procurement will be carried out in an organized manner. Too often, departments are left to fend for themselves in a piecemeal fashion. The result: most of their printed materials are commissioned to many different printers, with few standards for appearance and quality and no chance to achieve economies of scale. The problems of disorganized corporate-wide printing arise plausibly enough: at first, entrepreneurs at a fast-moving company find local printers who can get the work done quickly and cheaply.

eEye Retina Network Security Scanner v5.10 & REM Security Management Console: Product Report on PCI Suitability | 2008-08-25 | NSS Labs |
| In Q3 of 2008, NSS Labs performed comprehensive testing of the eEye Retina Network Security Scanner v5.10 as a Vulnerability Assessment Scanner (VA) for internal use within payment card environments. This paper contains the conclusions and associated data from a series of exacting tests performed on software installed in real-world test lab. It is important to note that this test was designed to determine the viability of the vulnerability scanning product for internal use within payment card environments. As such, NSS Labs tested the scanner's ability to accurately identify and classify a much broader range of application vulnerabilities than would be required for an external vulnerability scanner - such as those scanning services certified by the current PCI ASV program.

Managed Print Services | 2008-08-25 | Fujitsu |
| Whilst well-known and widely accepted for the procurement of copiers, a service contract for printers is still new to many commercial and government organisations. This paper discusses the advantages of a usage-based charge model for print. Through Managed Print Services (MPS) agreement organisations procure all consumable items, break-fix repairs, preventative maintenance and user support for their fleet of printers, Multi Function Printers (MFPs), copiers and Multi Function Devices (MFDs) for which they pay an agreed price per page for the actual usage. MPS balances the expenses related to document production devices. The form of billing known under the term service contract or click-charge is very well established for procuring copy technology and the associated supplies.

Why MFPs Matter to IT, Part III: Transforming Business Processes | 2008-08-15 | Xerox |
| This third white paper in Xerox's "Why MFPs Matter to IT" series describes new business-process technologies offered by multifunction devices that address concerns created by the advent of MFP scanning capabilities. For those in IT, the issues that matter most are how much scanning capability can be accommodated without network slowdowns, how well the actual scanning functions perform to enable new levels of performance and reliability, and how to protect information and maintain the security of documents.

Why MFPs Matter to IT, Part II: Managing the Print Environment | 2008-08-08 | Xerox |
| This second white paper in Xerox's "Why MFPs Matter to IT" series explains how adding the right print-management tool to the network can offer a real boost in productivity for end-users of the network as well as the IT staff that manage the network. While a variety of print-management tools is available, most are not conducive to an enterprise that uses a mix of devices and their corresponding print drivers.

Why MFPs Matter to IT, Part I: Validating the Technology | 2008-08-01 | Xerox |
| This first white paper in Xerox's "Why MFPs Matter to IT" series can help IT managers choose multifunction devices that fit the requirements of workgroups in the enterprise. As the need for scanning, color output, content management, asset management and other issues continue to drive IT decisions, MFPs can offer opportunities to cut costs for maintenance and management over more traditional office devices. The right MFP choices allow for seamless network integration, minimal end-user training, bi-directional communication to keep work moving, device management tools, remote intelligence and full vendor support.

Next Generation Scan and Print Solution: HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One | 2008-08-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| Today, information-driven workflows can be only as good as the IT infrastructures and mobile devices that support the business. Traditionally, scan, print and apply operations have been addressed with multiple hardware devices and/or bulky, label consuming printers. Now, imagine a lightweight, hand-mounted device that prints directly on a surface without label media. The HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One is the first and only integrated scan-and-print solution designed to simplify logistics operations, providing a lower total cost of ownership. This paper addresses an overview of scan, print and applies operations, introduction of the HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One, the HP sp400 AiO in operation and summary of benefits with the HP sp400 All-in-One.
