whitepaper Managed Services Provider Increases Recurring Sales Revenue 57 Percent2007-01-23 01:00:26 Microsoft
Invision is a provider of E-Business and managed services solutions.   The Everett Public Library, located in the city of Everett, Washington, manages two library branches that provide patrons with books, CDs, DVDs, and a range of educational services. The library must carefully manage a limited technology budget, and supports only two full-time IT staff people. These two employees handle IT management and technical support for all 166 PCs in the system. For the past several years, they spent much of their time troubleshooting and trying to protect shared-access computers. The library sought a tool that would ease management and provide better PC protection. In 2005, the library installed the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP, a set of software tools that can be used for free on computers with genuine Windows XP.

The financially challenged commission has a small IT department that maintains nearly 2,000 PCs. Most of the computers are shared-access public PCs, used by library patrons for research, e-mail, and browsing the Web. Many of these PCs are susceptible to tampering and other security challenges. As a result, commission IT employees have had to travel throughout the state to fix these problems. Because the commission wanted a cost-effective tool that would provide better security and management, it installed the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP. The Toolkit offers better PC protection and reduces the number of IT support calls and travel costs.
whitepaper MSDN Webcast: Windows Error Reporting (Level 200)2006-12-15 01:00:19 Microsoft
This webcast explores Windows Error Reporting (WER), a set of Windows technologies that capture software crash data and support user reporting of crash information. By default, when applications running on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Vista operating systems encounter a user-mode fault (crash), users can have a mini-dump file of the crash sent to Microsoft. WER gathers the information when a failure is detected and then prompts the user to send in a report. If the user sends the report, the information is uploaded directly to Microsoft.
