To do so, the university is now piloting applications running on Microsoft Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. The university's "Sledgehammer suite" includes a polling application that enables the instructor to ask multiple-choice questions and get real-time tabulations of student responses; a question-queue application that allows students to ask questions that other students can see and endorse if they have the same questions; and a "Presentation tool" that enables instructors to remotely control and annotate the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation running on the classroom computer.

The devices are used to enhance presentations, and during meetings handwritten notes can be made directly on the screen.

With ink recognizers, even a simple line is considered to be text and is thus recognized with very poor results.
