Choosing the Right Archiving Solution | 2009-05-01 | Osterman Research |
| An archiving system designed to preserve email and other content for long periods of time can provide any sized organization with a diverse set of benefits, including the ability to satisfy e-discovery and regulatory audit requirements, the ability to migrate content from expensive storage on email servers to less expensive archival storage, and the ability to make employees more productive by eliminating their email management tasks, among other benefits. In order to select from among the growing variety of archiving solutions available, organizations should carefully define their current and anticipated requirements for archiving functions and then map each solution under consideration to these requirements. Doing so will allow an organization to understand how each solution can meet - or not meet - its requirements.

Migrating From SPARC to HP + Intel Standards-Based Infrastructure: Cost Savings, Architecture Options, Supporting Technologies, Process Recommendations | 2009-05-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| In today's economy, eliminating fixed costs due to older, dedicated servers is an excellent way to shift budgets and resources to projects which make the business more competitive. Many organizations running mature application environments based on SPARC hardware are considering their choices for new server platforms. Adopting a standards-based infrastructure based on HP servers with Intel processors, combined with HP storage and managed through HP Systems Insight Manager, provides a proven, cost-effective and tightly integrated alternative. In addition to better performance, customers get tremendous cost savings from lower power usage, reduced floor space needs, and vastly improved server and storage utilization. These advantages translate into lower fixed costs, and lower budget demands to handle growth.

Staff Cost Savings Models to Justify RISC Migration | 2009-04-08 | Ziff Davis Enterprise Holdings |
| In the past, RISC-based servers delivered performance and memory advantages that made them the workhorses of corporate computing. And even though the systems used expensive, proprietary components and were expensive to operate, many organizations ran their critical business applications - including database, ERP, CRM, DNS server, and others - on RISC systems. As a result, fewer new servers are needed to do the jobs of older servers. For example, when Principled Technologies migrated an Oracle database application from a Sun Fire V440 with four Sun Ultra Sparc IIIi processors to a Dell PowerEdge R900 with four Intel Xeon E7450 processors, the Dell system ran over 13 times faster than the older system.
