IP Telephony Case Study: How Cisco IT Merged Voice and Data Engineering Groups | 2007-12-27 | Cisco Systems |
| When Cisco Systems migrated to IP communications, previously separate networking and voice networks converged, along with their respective organizations. Prior to the change, the Cisco IT group had been organized based on technologies. Telecommunications focused on Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM)-based Private Branch Exchange (PBX) switches. Networking concerned itself with LAN and WAN environments. Only the Cisco operations group supported both telecommunications and networking. To efficiently and effectively deploy and support converged applications, such as IP telephony, unified messaging, and videoconferencing, Cisco IT would need to reorganize. Cisco IT removed the organizational barriers between networking and voice.

How Cisco IT Migrated TDM Local Access From SONET to OC-192 Infrastructure | 2007-12-19 | Cisco Systems |
| By 2003, 18 more Cisco buildings on the San Jose campus were using so much capacity that customer-provided access would be more economical, but Cisco could not add these buildings to the legacy infrastructure of unconnected SONET rings. The legacy infrastructure had other drawbacks as well, including high management burden, inefficient capacity planning, and large footprint and power requirements. Cisco decided to migrate from its legacy SONET TDM local-access infrastructure to a unified, campuswide solution powered by the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Provisioning Platform. While other Cisco locations had a local access infrastructures based on the Cisco ONS 15454 system, this would be the first that was not a greenfield deployment. Cisco IT planned the cutover carefully to ensure that critical business services remained available.

Live Migration With AMD-V Extended Migration Technology | 2007-12-17 | Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) |
| Virtual Machine migration is a capability being increasingly utilized in today's enterprise environments. With live migration, a Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) moves a running Virtual Machine (VM) nearly instantaneously from one server to another for a seamless experience to the end user while maintaining guest uptime. However, if the processors running in the computers in the pre and post migration environment are not identical, live migration can result in unexpected behavior of the guest software. Since the introduction of its AMD64 processor technology in 2003, AMD has worked closely with virtualization software developers to define the functionality necessary to ensure that live migration is possible across a broad range of AMD64 processors.
