Configuring DDR2 Memory on Dell Platforms Based on the Intel E7520 and E7525 Chip Sets | 2005-09-15 03:00:04
| In the summer of 2004, Dell introduced new dual-processor Power- Edge servers and Dell Precision workstations equipped with Intel Xeon processors with Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T). The workstations are based on the Intel E7525 chip set, formerly code-named "Tumwater," and most of the servers are based on the Intel E7520 chip set, formerly code-named "Lindenhurst." The E7520 and E7525 chip sets have flexible DDR2 memory subsystem implementation options. Dell worked closely with Intel to design server and workstation platforms that provide flexible DDR2 memory configuration options that meet a variety of customer requirements. This white paper provides guidance on how to configure Dell PowerEdge and Dell Precision systems based on the E7520 and E7525 chip sets. | |||

From Moore's Law to Intel Innovation - Prediction to Reality | 2005-04-01 | Intel |
| This paper reviews some of the important breakthroughs that Intel researchers have developed to remain on the trajectory predicted by Moore's Law. With some of the industry's top minds and research talent, unmatched investment in world-leading fabrication facilities, and the world's most advanced process technology, Intel has the unique ability to translate advanced developments and scientific breakthroughs into next-level performance and high-volume manufacturing. This has allowed Intel to not only maintain the path predicted by Moore's Law, but to extend that trajectory of evolution from computing into communications and consumer electronics.

Platform 2015 Software: Enabling Innovation in Parallelism for the Next Decade | 2006-12-23 01:00:24 | Intel |
| Intel's microprocessor architectures over the next decade as envisioned in Platform 2015 will incorporate massive parallelism as they evolve to keep pace with expanding application demands. Using Chip-level MultiProcessing (CMP), these architectures will deliver superb performance scaling while improving critical power and heat issues. Along with advancing the performance and capabilities of its platform hardware, Intel is accelerating its software development and industry-enabling activities, aimed at empowering software vendors to exploit its hardware advances and develop a wide range of innovative applications. Data mining, a key enabling technology for the coming "Era of tera," provides an example of capabilities that have hitherto been available primarily on high-performance computers but will become relevant to - and highly beneficial for - ordinary consumers. | |||

Platform 2015: Intel Processor and Platform Evolution for the Next Decade | 2006-12-23 01:00:24 | Intel |
| Without a doubt, computing has made great strides in recent years. But as much as it has advanced in the last ten years, in the coming decade, the emergence and migration of new workloads and usage models to mainstream computing will put enormous demands on future computing platforms: demands for much higher performance, for much lower power density and for greatly expanded functionality. This paper has outlined an ambitious vision which, in some respects, is a wide departure from present-day processors and platforms. | |||

Scalability and Performance of HP ProLiant BL35p Server Blades With AMD Opteron Model 250 (2.4 GHz/1 MB) Processors in an HP SBC Environment | 2005-08-04 03:00:01
| The new HP ProLiant BL35p two-way server blade delivers uncompromising manageability, maximum computing density, and breakthrough power efficiencies to the high-performance data center. Offering customers a modular, space-saving design, the HP ProLiant BL35p server blade consumes less power, enabling denser rack architectures. The HP ProLiant BL35p shares the same infrastructure components as all BL p-Class server blades, allowing customers to enjoy additional benefits from the HP BladeSystem p-Class rack-centralized power sub-system and network interconnect options. A two-way HP ProLiant BL35p server blade with 2.4 GHz/1 MB processors can provide optimal support for up to 123 users1 in an HP SBC environment. | |||

AMD Multi-Core White Paper | 2005-02-15 | Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) |
| Multi-core processors represent a major evolution in computing technology. This important development is coming at a time when businesses and consumers are beginning to require the benefits offered by these processors due to the exponential growth of digital data and the globalization of the Internet. Multi-core processors will eventually become the pervasive computing model because they offer performance and productivity benefits beyond the capabilities of today's single-core processors.

High-Performance Direct Pairwise Comparison of Large Genomic Sequences | 2005-01-21 | Indiana University |
| Many applications in Comparative Genomics lend themselves to implementations that take advantage of common high-performance features in modern microprocessors. However, the common suggestion that a data-parallel, multithreaded, or high-throughput implementation is possible often ignores the complexity of actually creating such software. This paper presents a data-parallel algorithm for a classic comparative genomics algorithm, the dot plot, along with a multiprocessor extension. For large genomic comparisons, these new algorithms achieve speedups of up to 14.4x over the sequential version. This speedup introduces the opportunity of performing full pairwise comparisons on entire genomes on a much larger scale than previously possible.

Endianness White Paper | 2004-11-15 | Intel |
| Endianness is the format to how multi-byte data is stored in computer memory. It describes the location of the most significant byte (MSB) and least significant byte (LSB) of an address in memory. Endianness is dictated by the CPU architecture implementation of the system. The operating system does not dictate the endian model implemented, but rather the endian model of the CPU architecture dictates how the operating system is implemented. This paper describes software considerations related to microprocessor Endian architecture and discusses guidelines for developing Endian-neutral code. | |||

UNIX Operating System Porting Experiences | 2004-07-12 | Alcatel-Lucent |
| One of the reasons for the dramatic growth in popularity of the UNIX operating system is the portability of both the operating system and its associated user-level programs. This paper highlights the portability of the UNIX operating system, presents some general porting considerations, and shows how some of the ideas were used in actual UNIX operating system porting efforts. Discussions of the efforts associated with porting the UNIX operating system to an Intel 8086-based system, two UNIVAC 1100 Series processors, and the AT&T 3B20S and 3B5 minicomputers are presented.

A Public-Key Cryptographic Processor for RSA and ECC | 2005-08-02 03:00:01
| This paper describes an extension to a general-purpose processor for accelerating public-key cryptosystems. Supported are the legacy cryptosystems RSA and DH as well as the newly emerging Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) system. As this paper will show, minimal extensions suffice to efficiently support these public-key cryptosystems. Due to its computational efficiency, ECC is emerging as an attractive alternative to traditional public-key cryptosystems such as RSA, DSA, and DH. More specifically, ECC offers equivalent security with smaller key sizes, in less computation time and with less memory. |
