| The 70 employees at Quattlebaum, Grooms, Tull & Burrow PLLC offer legal services for individuals and businesses from the firm's main office in Little Rock, Arkansas, and branches in Johnson and Jonesboro. QGTB wanted a system that would provide a smooth presentation of applications for end users. In addition, they wanted to centralize resources for both local workstations and remote access. QGTB purchased a new server to run Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services in parallel during the transition, with a plan to use the Terminal Services features for application virtualization. The firm considered the 32-bit version, but chose the 64-bit for its increased memory limit and as a forward-looking choice.

The company wanted to launch a line of highly affordable and energy-efficient products and offer more choice for their customers. Rain decided to work with AMD based on the company's excellent reputation within the digital media market and the launch of its AMD Validated Solutions (AVS) program. The systems are powered by either dual-core or quad-core processors, and marry Rain's Quiet Cool engineering and AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology to deliver superior levels of energy efficiency.

| Recent expansion by the Danish Foreign Ministry challenged its need to operate under secure conditions, while using often limited and inconsistent connections. The Ministry urgently needed to adopt new workstation operating systems that offered enhanced security features, communication potential for remote users, and centralized administration. The Ministry upgraded 2,100 workstations to Windows Vista Enterprise, which provides enhanced security, search, and remote access functions.

| MATLAB, a commercial product of The MathWorks, Inc., has become one of the principal languages of desktop scientific computing. A system is described that enables one to run MATLAB conveniently on multiple processors. Using short, MATLAB-style commands like Eval, Send, Recv, Bcast, Min, and Sum, the user operating within one MATLAB session can start MATLAB processes on other machines and then pass commands and data between between these various processes in a fashion that maintains MATLAB's traditional user-friendliness. Multi-processor graphics is also supported. The system currently runs under MPICH on an IBM SP2 or a network of Unix workstations, and extensions are planned to networks of PCs.
