whitepaper HP White Paper: Multi-Processor Workstation Productivity in DCC Environments2007-03-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
This white paper describes multi-core, multi-processor computing and the performance advantages of multi-core, multi-processor workstations. Dual-processor equipped xw6400 and xw8400 workstations provide better performance in typical Digital Content Creation (DCC) environments than the single-processor xw4400. For typical DCC application scenarios, tests have shown performance gains of up to 65%.Digital content creators in animation, video game development, and post-production know well the challenge of delivering cutting-edge, lifelike graphics, and special effects to increasingly sophisticated audiences. Under pressure to deliver ever more astonishing results, artists and designers look to technology to improve their productivity and the quality of their work.

whitepaper AMT-Credit Agricole Uses BMC Configuration Management to Distribute Its Bore@l Workstation and Manage Applications0000-00-00 BMC Software
To ensure the effectiveness of its rollout of the latest version of its Bore@l workstation, Association de Moyens Technologiques' (AMT's) goal was twofold - benefit from a remote distribution technology to enable the rapid distribution of updates, and authorize "On-demand" distribution and the follow-up on dedicated applications running on Bore@l workstations across the administrative sites. AMT turned to BMC to supply state-of-the-art technology to ensure the effective distribution of its Bore@l workstation. The BMC Configuration Management solution provided the twofold advantage of natively supporting versioned applications, without the need for custom development, and also offering on-demand remote distribution of variable data requiring daily updates.

whitepaper Evaluation of a Bricked Volume Layout for a Medical Workstation Based on Java2007-01-04 Vienna University of Technology
Volumes acquired for medical examination purposes are constantly increasing in size. For this reason, the computer's memory is the limiting factor for visualizing the data. Bricking is a well-known concept used for rendering large data sets. The volume data is subdivided into smaller blocks to achieve better memory utilization. Until now, the vast majority of medical workstations use a linear volume layout. The paper implemented a bricked volume layout for such a workstation based on Java as required by the collaborative company partner to evaluate different common access patterns to the volume data. For rendering, the authors were mainly interested to see how the performance will differ from the traditional linear volume layout if one generated images of arbitrarily oriented slices via Multi-Planar Reformatting (MPR).
