Do-it-Yourself IPTV Takes Off in Belgium | 2007-08-21 | Ruckus Wireless |
| Gaining exclusive rights from the Professional Football League to broadcast Belgian football, Belgacom wanted to exploit this opportunity. It needed to act fast, ramping the services as quickly as possible. To do this, home installation and distribution of its IPTV service needed to be re-thought. Belgacom's goal was to empower consumers to install their service where and when they wanted, not having to schedule installation and wait for technicians. The conventional approach, wiring homes with Category 5 Ethernet or using an IP over powerline (PLC) solutions didn't meet that goal. Belgacom needed a carrier-class solution designed for the specific application - IPTV over Wi-Fi. Belgacom deployed Ruckus MediaFlex NG multimedia router and Ruckus MediaFlex NG multimedia adapter.

Raman Crosstalk Suppression in CATV Overlay Passive Optical Network | 2007-05-01 | Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers |
| In CAble TeleVision (CATV) overlay Passive Optical Networks (PONs), where a CATV signal copropagates with a downstream baseband signal, the crosstalk components mediated by Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) limit the performance of low-number CATV channels. This paper proposes and demonstrates a way of reducing the SRS-induced crosstalk in CATV overlay PONs. The proposed scheme utilizes a high-speed polarization scrambler in the transmitter to make the SRS-induced crosstalk independent of polarization evolution along the fiber and a subtractor module to compensate for the crosstalk. The demonstration shows that crosstalk can be reduced by 9 dB.

Broadcast Video Infrastructure Implementation Using FPGAs | 2007-03-01 | Altera |
| The proliferation of High-Definition TeleVision (HDTV) video content creation and the method of delivering these contents in a bandwidth-limited broadcast channel environment have driven new video compression standards and associated video image processing applications. Traditionally, only cable and satellite operators provided video delivery. Now telecommunication companies (telcos) are getting into this arena by using the latest video coder/decoders (CODECs) and video-processing technology to transmit digital video to the consumer via Internet Protocol TeleVision (IPTV).

| As the technology of internet and multimedia processing is improving, IPTV has emerged as new revenue opportunities to network service providers. Network service providers have to consider both network and multimedia processing factors to guarantee adaptable network service level of IPTV service. In the view of network service customers, it is a good way to require network service providers to present a concise contract when they want to get IPTV service. A Service Level Agreement (SLA) has been an essential factor between network service providers and customers in providing network service with a concise contract to meet customers' requirement and network service provider's need.
