whitepaper Document Summarization Using Wikipedia2009-02-21 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Although most of the developing world is likely to first access the Internet through mobile phones, mobile devices are constrained by screen space, bandwidth and limited attention span. Single document summarization techniques have the potential to simplify information consumption on mobile phones by presenting only the most relevant information contained in the document. This paper presents a language independent single-document summarization method. The paper maps document sentences to semantic concepts in Wikipedia and select sentences for the summary based on the frequency of the mapped-to concepts. The evaluation on English documents using the ROUGE package indicates one's summarization method is competitive with the state of the art in single document summarization.

whitepaper Why Outsource Document Scanning/OCR Projects2009-02-06
Document scanning/OCR service is a very affordable business solution. Many businesses find that outsourcing their document scanning is more efficient. The expenditure in time and effort (and, one might add, aggravation) of trying to process these projects in-house is usually greater than anticipated. Having the work done by well-equipped professionals with expertise in document scanning, optical character recognition and PDF or other file format conversion is quite cost-effective. By outsourcing document scanning/OCR service projects one gain access to world-class capabilities and resources by leveraging the talent, technology and skills of others. Going high tech without the extensive investment in equipment, highly trained technicians and expensive software gives one the competitive advantage and helps avoid the cost of chasing ever-changing technology.

whitepaper The Importance of an Information Strategy2008-12-01 IBM
Since its inception, IT has focused on reducing costs through process automation and the implementation of applications. However, that is no longer enough to sustain competitive advantage in a rapidly changing world. Today, important business decisions depend on having up-to-date, trustworthy information. At the same time, you need to assess the internal and external risks involved in such decisions. This is not easy, which is why organizations need to build an Information Strategy to guide them towards a coherent, integrated environment for managing and delivering information in support of their business goals. The implementation of an information strategy is critical to your organization's business success and key to sustaining your competitive advantage. IBM's Information Agenda has been specifically designed to help. Read this paper by Philip Howard of Bloor Research for helpful insights on getting started.
